Histori
1992-2005: Inception
Jet Airways was incorporated as a limited liability company on April 1, 1992. It started operations as an air taxi operator on May 5, 1993 with a fleet of four Boeing 737-300 chartered aircraft. The airline was granted flight status scheduled on January 14, 1995. On May 12, 1994, all shares were transferred to Tailwinds International, whose equity holdings were held by Naresh Goyal (60%), Gulf Air (20%) and Kuwait Airways (20%). In October 1997, according to the Ministry of Civil Aviation's instructions prohibiting foreign investment in passenger airlines, Goyal took over the entire company. The airline launched its first international flight in March 2004 from Chennai to Colombo. The company was listed on the Bombay Stock Exchange and became a public company on December 28, 2004, with Goyal maintaining a 51% shareholding.

On 12 April 2007, the deal was back on track with Jet Airways agreeing to pay INR 14.5 billion (US $ 220 million). Controversy
Trademark infringement
Jet Airways is expected to start service to Newark via Brussels in June 2005. In March 2005, the airline applied to the US Department of Transportation; however, the application was opposed by Nancy Heckerman, CEO of the US listed company, Jet Airways Inc., based in Bethesda, Maryland, which alleges trademark infringement and connection to Al Qaeda terrorist clothing. Jet Airways rejected the claim.
Security
Asmin Tariq, a contractor working for the airline as a security agent at Heathrow airport, was involved in a foiled terror plot on August 10, 2006 to blow up several transatlantic aircraft belonging to three different US carriers. Furthermore, the UK and Singapore Governments requested security-related information from the Ministry of External Affairs at Jet Airways; further permission was postponed to fly to the US. The US State Department gave the go-ahead for airlines to fly to the United States on November 15, 2006.
In August 2014, two Jet Airways pilots were suspended after a plane carrying 280 passengers down 5,000 feet (1,500 m) in the air from Mumbai to Brussels.
Customer service
On December 2, 2016, Jet Airways 9W7083 flights from Bhopal to Mumbai were held by a large group of passengers heading for a wedding in Mumbai. There were allegations from other passengers that the wedding party was politically connected and tried to force the cabin crew to lower passengers, so additional members of their party could be accommodated. The airline claims it was a technical error in their booking system that caused excessive bookings.
A Supreme Court attorney alleged that his elderly mother was harassed by a staff member and he collapsed and suffered a scratch on his chin. Among others, a responsible staff member at the airport reportedly told him to go do whatever he could.
Corruption
In 2016, the airline was involved in the Gupta family controversy in South Africa when accused by former African National Congressman MP Vytjie Mentor that members of the business family had offered him the position of Minister of Public Corporation, on behalf of President Jacob Zuma, if he agreed to arrange South African Airways to cancel their Indian route so Jet Airways can get it.
