Haunted Mansion Holiday, also known as Haunted Mansion Holiday Nightmare , is a seasonal overlay of the Haunted Mansion attraction in Disneyland and Tokyo Disneyland that blends the setting and character of the original Haunted Mansion with film- Tim Burton's 1993 film The Nightmare Before Christmas . Taking inspiration from "The Night Before Christmas", this attraction retells the story of Jack Skellington (as "Sandy Claws") visiting the Haunted Mansion on Christmas Eve, leaving behind the holiday chaos behind him.
The Haunted Mansion usually closes for two and a half weeks at the end of summer so it can be converted into a Haunted Mansion Holiday. Overlaid attractions are then opened for guests from late September to early January before closing again to remove overlays.

Histori
Two similar strands - Country Bear Christmas Special and This is a Small Holiday World - have been successful for some time when the Haunted Mansion Holiday was developed. Initially, Disney considered retiring Charles Dickens' A Christmas Carol, but decided against it because of the setting up of attractions in New Orleans Square and the oddity of bringing Santa Claus into the scary neighborhood of Haunted Mansion. Instead, they decided to base it on The Nightmare Before Christmas after considering which Disney characters would celebrate Christmas at Haunted Mansion, should Santa Claus ever land there on his journey. Steve Davison took the idea and worked with Walt Disney Creative Entertainment to develop an overlay.
One problem Disney has to face is the fact that many of the key players in the original attractions - Paul Frees, Leota Toombs, Eleanor Audley, most of the singing statues, and almost all of the original voice actors - have died years before. Paul Frees was replaced in his role as Ghost Host by Corey Burton, who has done voiceover work with Disney before. Princess Leota Toombs, Kim Irvine, resembles her mother and is thus chosen to perform in her place as Madame Leota. Susan Blakeslee (imitating Eleanor Audley) cast Madame Leota's voice. The sculptures sang topped with Jack-O-Lanterns and were given a projection of computer animated singing. New voice actors are selected for ghost ghosts that sound similar to the original (with the exception of the Trio of the Leader, Knights and Executioners seem to have their voices swapped).
Haunted Mansion Holiday opened October 3, 2001, and quickly became popular among the guests, leading to the FastPass attraction machines being activated during overlay (they are now always active). The Tokyo version of the props meant for Walt Disney World, but when the park abandoned plans to install a tourist attraction, Tokyo (which features carbon copies of their Haunted Mansion) received all the properties. On September 13, 2013 (Friday the 13th), the Ghost House in Disneyland is open to the public equipped with new effects and pieces set to celebrate the 13th year. Walt Disney World Resort and Disneyland Paris do not have seasonal overlays. Outside Phantom Manor, guests can take their pictures with Jack and Sally.

Storyline
The Haunted Mansion Holiday took place shortly after the movie, "The Nightmare Before Christmas", where Jack Skellington, who tried to create his own Crooked Halloween Christmas in the movie, now finds Haunted Mansion, home to Happy Haunts 999. Deciding to spread the excitement to the dreary homes in the mansion for the holidays, Jack and the creepy crew from Halloween City brought hundreds of nasty Christmas gifts and bad Jack decorations to the manor and packed the haunted grounds for a thrilling and frightening vacation for the Grim Grinning Ghosts inhabiting abandoned homes, set the stage for the journey itself.
Attractions
While visiting the mansion, guests first notice that the facade has been completely redecorated, with jack-o-lantern and candles. Jack's sled is on the roof.
In the foyer, the bleak rendition of Making Christmas plays when Ghost Host starts telling the story of what's happening in the mansion. Jack Skellington's image slowly turns into a Jack dressed up like "Sandy Claws". The door opened, allowing guests to the famous octagonal portrait gallery. Large stained-glass paintings adorn the walls, depicting innocent Christmas scenes. After the door closed, everything became dark with a terrible voice from the paintings that broke in two. The room began to stretch, the tension rising, and with a thunderous voice, Jack's face appeared in the dome above, shouting: "Happy Holidays, All!" Since 2013, the ceiling has been retooled to illustrate a stained bouquet, changing color as the room stretches. It will destroy twice, once in the face of a grinning pumpkin head, then fully revealing Jack Skellington who eagerly looked down on guests. When the lights turn back on, Host Ghost can still be seen on the rafters.
Terrifying screams and broken bones were heard, and the doors opened again. Guests will head to the loading area, where they board the Doom Buggy to start the tour. From above, Jack greets guests with Sally and Vampire Teddy. In another hallway, the character's painting of Halloween Town oversees every guest movement.
In the library, Zero had created a spinning Christmas tree, wrapped in a bouquet of flowers. The statues that stare remain. The Doom Buggies then drifted into the Musical Room, where Sally sat, listening to Teddy Vampires play for him quickly on the piano. As the guests drift up, the insects shiver in fear in the cage, labeled "To Oogie". Oogie's shadow can be seen dancing on the lunar face and turning into a Christmas tree.
Guests float past Endless Hallway, with decorative bone around it. Zero, Jack's dog floats inside, barking with joy. In the Conservatory, a bunch of flowers popping up and now forming a choir. A man tries to escape from a coffin wrapped with Christmas, but Teddy Bear Vampire sits on top, a hammer and a nail in hand. The passage, which guests have passed, has also been restored, with skulls and wreaths. The doors on either side made strange noises, as if there was something on the other side trying to get out. A large-meal bouquet awaits above the guests, reach out to pick them up. More evil funny flowers emerged from there. The grandfather clock of the 13th bell when the hand is turning wildly back, and a note reads "To Leota: 13 Special Gifts for You! -The Claw Bath"
In the Seance Room, Mrs. Leota read "13 Days of Christmas", her 13 Christmas presents. A tarot card showing all the prizes floating around the room, while the Vampire Teddy Bear rings the bells crazily. A picket of zombie beans imitates Leota who shouts his spell.
The Happy Haunts finally began to materialize in the ballroom. A cake sitting on a table resembling a spiral hill from the town of Halloween, but covered with snow. Large, dead Christmas trees are in the center of the room, with flashy skull or jack-o-lantern ornaments and spider ornaments up and down. Ghosts dance through trees while a ghost organ plays Kidnap the Sandy Claws as waltz.
In Attic, all of Jack's presents have been saved. With ruthless, stunning gifts lying around the room, a jack-in-the-box sprang up to scare off passing guests. A snake, after eating some presents, sits down with Jack's Naughty and Nice's list that hangs in his mouth.
The Graveyard has been completely covered in snow and spiral hills from Halloween Town sitting in the middle of the grave, covered with snow and singing, jack-o-lanterns shine. Jack Skellington greets guests at the gate, wishes Merry Christmas with Zero. A quarter of the statues have been closed with the singing of jack-o-lanterns while the funeral ghosts sing about their perfect Christmas. Ghost riding a bike with Jack's ridge. Giant ice corners with jack-o-lantern heads blow their horns on top. The guests finally enter the basement, because Vampire Teddy Bear plays his own little horn to say goodbye.
The Ghost Host warns guests about followers, such as Lock, Shock, and Barrel frolicking a peek of gifts. The gang mirror surrounds the next wall, and in the mirror, Lock, Shake, or Barrel sitting in your car. Sally can then be seen, waving to Jack as she leaves, crossing the face of the moon and wishing Merry Christmas. The guests then lower their Doom Buggy, hearing the ghosts play jazzy songs to give them something to remember after they leave.
Additions
Disneyland offers scavengers "Oogie Boogie's Holiday Tricks and Treats". Oogie has a brilliant acting hidden throughout the mansion, which guests are asked to find. For example, Oogie can be found in the bushes in the garden, the shadows on Christmas cards, the dolls in the attic, etc.
Soundtrack
The musical score of this attraction was originally composed by Gordon Goodwin. It was replaced in 2002 with a score adjusted by John Debney, based on the theme of the movie soundtrack composed by Danny Elfman. Since 2003, Goodwin's original music has been used in the stretch room and basement (where Goodwin attic music is used), while the rest of the Elfman score remains. Some of the characters on the voyage are voiced by the original actors of the film, and the various sound effects are a mixture of songs from the original attractions and the new ones.
