Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey is a motion-based dark ramp located at The Wizarding World of Harry Potter themed in Islands of Adventure in Orlando, Florida, Universal Studios Hollywood in Universal City, California, and Universal Studios Japan in Osaka, Japan. This trip takes guests through the sights and environments in and around Hogwarts Castle from the Harry Potter series of books and movies. Mark Woodbury, president of Universal Creative, describes this journey as an in-depth view of the Harry Potter world, utilizing unprecedented technology that changes the "entertainment experience as you know it." The first trip opened in the Islands of Adventure with the Harry Potter Magic World on June 18, 2010, at Universal Studios Japan on July 15, 2014, and at Universal Studios Hollywood on April 7, 2016.

Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey using the KUKA robocoaster technology, which allows the seat to spin while being held on the track by a robotic arm. Experience includes flights around Hogwarts castle, encounters with Whomping Willow and a bunch of Dementors, and Quidditch matches. Queue area
To enter the journey, guests walk through the gates of Hogwarts and begin their journey in the basement where they see the items featured in movies and books. Passengers enter through the castle door, go to the locker, line up outside in the green house and then enter the rear castle door. The recognizable objects of this series include Reversed Mirror, Hogwarts House Gem, and talking portraits. As guests proceeded in the halls, they found replicas of Hogwarts castle rooms, including the Principal's office, the Defense Against the Dark Arts class and the Gryffindor recreation room. At the principal's office, Professor Dumbledore delivered a warm welcome to all Muggles, informing them that Professor Binns was holding a lecture on school history. In Defense Against the Dark Arts classroom, Harry, Ron, and Hermione emerge from under the Invisibility Cloak, urging guests to meet them in the Room of Requirement to smuggle everyone into a Quidditch match. Ron tried to cast a spell, which was wrong, and one of several special effects, like a snowfall, was triggered. Before continuing, visitors receive a safety reminder from the Sorting Hat and several paintings in the next two rooms.
Station
Next, the rider rides a fascinated bench inside the Room of Requirement, which lifts off the ground and through the Floo Network to travel with Harry. This trip combines real and animatronic clusters with segments that use wrap-around projection screens.
Ride
The journey begins by watering Floo Powder from Hermione Granger, which asks guests to say, "Observatory" to transport them to the desired location, and the enchanted bench flies through the Floo Network to the Astronomy Tower. Guests leave the room requirements through a fireplace and enter the Observatory, where they look through the open arch to the hills and lakes just outside the Hogwarts border. As the guests flew out of one of the arches of the Observatory, the ride smoothly switched to a thorough projection screen and they followed Harry Potter and Ron Weasley around the building and the Hogwarts tower into a Quidditch match. When Harry and Ron walk under the bridge, Hagrid hands over the riders and asks if they have seen a dragon. When Harry turns the rider's attention back to their journey, Hungarian Horntail's dragon pet Hagrid starts chasing the rider. The bench flew out of the projection screen and became a set of uneven bridges that crossed the valley behind Hogwarts and, having fallen from a hole in the bridge floor, they found an animatronic dragon, which breathed a pressurized water mist with red lighting to point it to make it resemble fire.
The riders descend to a set of Forbidden Forests where they find the figure of Aragog, a large living spider who spewed water at them. When Hermione tries to help the riders move away from Aragog and head for the castle, meet many spiders on the road, they meet the animatronic Dedengkam that sweeps them, dropping them onto the Quidditch field. The journey back to the projection screen when the riders get caught in the game of Harry and Ron Quidditch. When Slytherin scores into Gryffindor goals, the Dementors arrive on the Quidditch pitch and Harry tries to lead the riders away through the field structure and returns to school, but their benches fall into the long-abandoned Chamber of Secrets through the cave entrance on the cliffs of Harry, Ron, Ginny , Fawkes, and Gilderoy Lockhart depart from the Chamber in the second installment of Harry Potter. The rider returns to the real set when the dementor emerges from the pipeline and chases them. The skeleton of the long-dead Basilisk lay on the floor of the Chamber, and drove Dark Mark from Lord Voldemort into the air as the seats were drawn to the mouth of the Salazar Slytherin statue.
Dozens of Dementors emerged from the darkness while one went down and tried to suck the souls of the riders. This effect is achieved by projecting the rider's face into a cloud of fog in front of the dementor, blowing cold air toward the rider, and using sounds like a heartbeat played through a sub-woofer built on a bench. After shaking the rider from the trance, Harry causes the Dementor to flee with a Protective Patronus Charm. After the last Dementor, and while Harry uses his Patronus, the riders enter the final dome video segment, where a cliff outside the Chamber of Secrets enters. They flew over the Black Lake, back to Hogwarts and through the Main Hall and the Grand Staircase, where they were energized by a series of characters on the screen of a three-dimensional film. Professor Dumbledore sent everyone back through the Floo Network to the Room of Requirement, where they came out of their benches.
Restrictions
While everyone can walk through the queue, all riders must have a height of at least 48 inches (120 cm). The trip has no maximum weight limit, and the rider can test whether the attraction accommodates their size using the test seat at the queue entrance and again at the end of the queue, which is equipped with red, yellow, and green lights that indicate whether the rider can be accommodated. People who need a modified seat on other rides may find it difficult to close the safety straps over the shoulders. If passengers can not secure harness, they are not allowed to ride attractions. In an effort to address this problem, Universal has modified the restraint system on several seats to accommodate larger guests. This modification will not affect the seat size or create a dangerous situation for smaller guests. Guests receiving a yellow light on the test seat can sit on a modified seat. Modified seating is not available in the Hollywood version of the trip.
According to Universal Orlando Resort Rider's Guide, both feet should stand out from under the restraint and form the lap. In practice, amputations above the knee will not be allowed to ride unless their remaining natural limbs reach the edge of the seat (or at least including the knee), even if the bar-lock seems to successfully engage the limbs. Prosthetics of the lower extremity will not compensate for this need as it must be removed before it goes up. This special restriction is not clearly posted on the trip or on the website, which lists only height requirements. The need for prosthetic removal of the lower extremities can be found on the "Accessibility Information" page under "Guest with Prosthetic Body Members." Long residual extremity requirements are not listed there but will apply on the journey before boarding. A wheelchair user who can transfer directly to a ride vehicle can do so in a separate area, which does not contain an introductory theme from Floo Network. Instead, wheelchair users pass through a series of uninterrupted lifts and corridors to arrive at an accessible loading area. Only one accessible vehicle is available, and each party must wait for the previous group to return before they can enter the loading area.

History
In January 2007, rumors broke out about the possibility of the Harry Potter themed island in the theme park of Universal's Islands of Adventure. This was followed by further rumors that part of the project was codenamed "Strong Arm" referring to the KUKA robot arm technology it would use. On May 31, 2007, Universal, in partnership with Warner Bros., officially announced that the Wizarding World of Harry Potter is coming to the Islands of Adventure. The preparation of the site for The Wizarding World of Harry Potter began in late October 2007, and the construction of Harry Potter and the Forbidden Destination began in February 2008. Construction ends in the first half of 2010. Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey began operations on June 1, 2010, and officially opened to the public on June 18, 2010. The venue was upgraded to 4K 120 FPS on June 4, 2018.
On May 5, 2012, the Los Angeles Times reported that Universal Studios Japan will also receive the Harry Potter Magic World , with Harry Potter and the Forbidden Travel confirmed as one of the attractions. The Japan journey opens on July 15, 2014. The 3D effect was added on May 21, 2015 and upgraded to 4K 120 FPS on January 18, 2018. 3D effects were removed on March 16, 2018.
On December 6, 2011, Universal Park & ​​amp; Resorts announced it will open The Wizarding World of Harry Potter at Universal Studios Hollywood in 2016, and one of its attractions is Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey. On April 7, 2016, the Harry Potter Wizarding World Hogsmeade opened at Universal Studios Hollywood with the Harry Potter rides and The Forbidden Journey and Flight of The Hippogriff which debuted with a new section. Unlike its Florida counterpart, Harry Potter and Forbidden Journey feature 3D HD Technology, where guests wear the "Quidditch" 3D glasses. Although the 3D effect was removed just eight months later on December 4, 2016, the trip was updated with 4K 120 FPS on March 28, 2017.
Mechanics up
Harry Potter and Forbidden Journey have a ride system RoboCoaster G2 provided by Dynamic Structures, KUKA and RoboCoaster. The first generation RoboCoaster system featured the KUKA robotic arm technology mounted on stationary platforms, while the second generation G2 system installed the arm on the busbar lane. The system was first disclosed to the public at the International Trade Fair of the Amusement and Attractions Park (IAAPA) in 2003. At about the same time, rumors began to circulate about the possibility of Islands of Adventure adding Van Helsing themed travel using this technology. The plan was subsequently removed with Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey in the end using the same technology and opening in the same plot of land proposed for Van Helsing's trip. The seating above is mounted on a robotic arm which in turn is mounted on the track. This allows the arm to travel through attraction while performing their movements in sync with rising show elements (animated props, projection surfaces, etc.). This concept first appeared in the International Trade Show and Entertainment Exhibition 2004 (IAAPA). The disadvantage of this complicated machine is that if the trip is broken, some guests are stranded in an uncomfortable position, as it is tilted backwards in a dark enclosed space.
For the three parts of the journey in which the wrap-around projection is used, each robot arm continues the fixed motion on the track but is filled by the individual parabolic projection screen and the projector running at the same speed. Each projection section uses a large turntable with six of the large screen mounted outward - one for each robotic arm as they pass - and each screen is big enough so that when in front of each pedestal bench, the tip is not visible. The screen appears and disappears behind the edge of the physical set. The robotic arm can freely dive, rotate and rotate each support within the arch area, giving the illusion of extreme movement when synchronized with the projection, while the base of the arm on the track simply follows the slow circular path that each screen needs when rotating. This is why each projection part of the journey is approximately equal in length, since each driving arm must follow each of the projection screen screens that are identical for a certain period of time.
Design
This interest is designed by Universal Creative in collaboration with Warner Bros.. Recreation Group. Thierry Coup, who works at The Amazing Adventures of Spider-Man, Shrek 4-D and Revenge of the Mummy, is the Creative Director for this trip.

Reception
Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey have been widely praised for their innovation and the theme. Arthur Levine of About.com stated that he felt he had "been taken to a truly magical place.For some glorious moments, the Floo Network, the flying benches, and the seemingly impossible willow, but the truth." He gave a 5 star rating ride of 5, and wrote that the trip was the best of its kind. Robert Niles from Theme Park Insider praised Universal Creative for his attention to detail on the journey. Niles writes that the company has set its expectations almost very high, and that travel is "the most sophisticated and exciting attraction in the history of the amusement industry". Ricky Brigante of Inside the Magic described the journey as a "journey of jaw-dropping that should not be forgotten," but criticized the lack of continuity with the story.
In the annual Golden Ticket Awards, Harry Potter and Forbidden Journey debuted as the best new rides of 2010. This then won the Best Dark Ride category for five consecutive years from 2011 to 2015, falling to second place (behind The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror) in 2016 and 2017.
