Movies
Raimi became fascinated by making movies when his father took home a movie camera one day and he started making Super 8 movies with his childhood friend Bruce Campbell. On campus, he teamed up with his roommates Robert Tapert and Campbell for filming Within the Woods (1978), a 32-minute horror movie that garnered $ 375,000, and his debut movie It's Murder! . Through his family, friends, and network of investors, Raimi was able to afford the highly successful horror movie production of The Evil Dead (1981) which became a cult hit and effectively launched Raimi's career.
He started working on his third film Crimewave (1985), which was intended as a live-action comic book - it did not work, partly because of unwanted studio intervention. Raimi then returns to the horror genre with the seminal Evil Dead II (which adds slapstick humor to the top of the horror, showing his love for the Three Stooges). With his brother Ivan Raimi (and calling himself Celia Abrams), Sam Raimi also wrote Easy Wheels (1989), a parody of the movie genre Biker Outlaw. Fans of the old comic books, he then tried to adapt "The Shadow" into the movie, but could not secure his rights, so he created his own super hero, Darkman (1990). The film is his first studio photo of his first, and while it is only quite successful, he spawned two sequels. Through it he can still get funding for the Evil Dead III , titled Army of Darkness and turns almost entirely from horror that favors elements of fantasy and comedy. Army of Darkness , the last film in the Evil Dead trilogy, was a box office failure, but in the video it became a cult classic.
In the 1990s, Raimi moved on to other genres, directing films such as the West The Quick and the Dead (starring Sharon Stone and Gene Hackman), a critically acclaimed crime thriller A Simple Plan (1998) (starring Bill Paxton and Billy Bob Thornton), and romantic drama For Love of the Game (1999) (starring Kevin Costner). Before directing the movie Spider-Man, Raimi lobbied to drive Batman Forever when Tim Burton was removed from the director's seat, but was rejected for supporting Joel Schumacher, whose reputation at the time was Raimi's outshone.
Raimi achieved massive commercial and critical success with the Spider-Man blockbuster (2002), adapted from a comic book series of the same name. The film has grossed over US $ 800 million worldwide, resulting in two sequels: Spider-Man 2 and Spider-Man 3, both directed by Raimi and both raked around $ 800 million each. After finishing the third movie Spider-Man, he plans to produce two more sequels (though Sony Pictures planned three sequels) but could not find a satisfactory script.
Raimi often collaborates with Joel and Ethan Coen, starting when Joel is one of the editors of Evil Dead. Coens wrote Crimewave and The Hudsucker Proxy with Raimi in the mid-1980s (though Hudsucker was not produced for nearly a decade). Raimi made a cameo appearance at Miller Crossing The Hudsucker Proxy , and with Joel Coen at Spies Like Us . The Coen brothers advised Raimi to shoot in the snow for the Simple Plan , based on their experience with Fargo .
He worked in front of the camera on The Stand as a shadow killer, John Carpenter's Body Bags as a gas station officer, and Indian Summer in what might be a role his greatest as Alan Arkin's clumsy assistant. The film was written by writers of his childhood friend Mike Binder and fired on the camp they both attended when they were younger. Raimi also produces the entire franchise of The Grudge .
According to Entertainment Weekly , Raimi has expressed interest in directing the movie version The Hobbit , prequel to the Lord of the Rings trilogy. In 2008, Guillermo del Toro was elected as a director, with Peter Jackson as an executive producer. Raimi can direct By Any Means Necessary , the next movie based on CIA's "Jack Ryan" character created by Tom Clancy for Paramount Pictures. Disney also approached him to direct W.I.T.C.H.: The Movie , based on popular comics.
Blizzard Entertainment announced on July 22, 2009 that Sam Raimi will direct the movie Warcraft . But at Comic-Con International 2012, it was revealed that he would not be the one to direct the adaptation of World of Warcraft.
On September 23, 2009, he became a producer for the British Supranatural thriller Refuge , directed by Corin Hardy and published by Mandate Pictures. He will produce a remake of the Danish thriller The Substitute , which will be directed by Scott Dickerson under his new label, Spooky Pictures. Raimi is produced with his company Ghost House Pictures British thriller movie Burst 3D , directed by Neil Marshall.
Raimi directs Oz the Great and Powerful , which was released on March 8, 2013 by Walt Disney Pictures. He said he would not direct a further plan.
On December 11, 2006, the SuperHero Hype website reported that directors Sam Raimi and Michael Uslan will produce the new version of The Shadow film for Columbia Pictures. On October 16, 2007, Raimi stated that: "I have no news about 'The Shadow' at this time, except that the company I have with Josh Donen, my production partner, we have the right to 'Shadow.' I really like that character and we try to work on a story that will be fair for that character. "
Raimi, along with Bruce Campbell and Rob Tapert, produced the Raimi remake of The Evil Dead. The first feature filmmaker Fede Alvarez wrote and directed, and Diablo Cody was also brought in to revise/rewrite the script. Raimi confirmed plans to write Evil Dead 4 with his brother; it was later determined that the film would be the Army of Darkness 2 . Alvarez reveals that Raimi will direct his sequel to the Army of Darkness . However, in an interview with Erin Darling, Bruce Campbell announced that the "Army of Darkness 2" was not happening, saying "This is all internet bs.There is no reality at all.Random comments are coming out of my mouth, or Mouth Sam Raimi, next thing you know, we made a sequel. "
On February 26, 2016, it was confirmed that Raimi was bound to direct the upcoming movie World War 3 to Warner Bros.. The film will be based on future possibilities inspired by George Friedman's The Next 100 Years book.
On February 16, 2017, it was reported that Raimi would direct a thriller about the Bermuda Triangle for Skydance Media, with a script written by Doug Miro and Carlo Bernard.

He directed the pilot episode of Star Wars versus Ash vs Evil Dead.
Repeated trademarks, motifs and partners
Raimi's brother Ted Raimi and his friend, Bruce Campbell, often appear in screen roles in film and television projects, although some of his performances are just brilliant acting. All three have worked together since their college days. Both Ted and Bruce have appeared in both Evil Dead and Spider-Man movies, as well as Hercules: The Legendary Journeys
In Ted's movie "Spider-Man", Ted plays the lead role of Ted Hoffman's advertisement manager Ted Hoffman, while Bruce Campbell plays a different role in every movie's "Spider-Man". In Hercules and Xena , Ted and Bruce play the recurring roles of Joxer and Autolycus. Raimi sometimes appears on the screen in his movie, usually in the same way as the brilliant acting created by his idol Alfred Hitchcock: In Spider-Man in the wrestling scene as the silhouette behind the projection screen; in Spider-Man 2 as a passing student whose book bag is about Peter Parker behind his head; as a riding fisherman accompanied by Robert Tapert at The Evil Dead . Raimi also wore a suit with a white shirt and a tie set in another tribute to Hitchcock. Proficient fans will also see Raimi's repeated use of soda crackers as a rear support.
Raimi often works with film editor Bob Murawski, a fellow alumnus of Michigan State University. Among the Raimi movies edited by Murawski include the Spider-Man movies, The Gift, and Army of Darkness. Raimi also often works with composer Joseph LoDuca, another acquaintance from Michigan who has given scores for most of his films.
Raimi had driven his old car from his college years, the yellow Oldsmobile Delta 88 in 1973 (nicknamed "The Classic"), in every movie including The Quick and the Dead (somewhere... in a hidden place Only I know I will never say "). At Comic-con 2005 Bruce Campbell revealed that a special covered wagon frame had covered Oldsmobile to retain motive film. The yellow Oldsmobile also appears in Drag Me to Hell, driven by elderly gypsy ladies. A bottle of Maker's Mark also appears regularly in his films. The Classic does not appear in the last piece of For Love of the Game , however. The scene where it appears has been removed during the editing process.
Other Raimi visual trademarks include:
- A privileged camera takes pictures where the camera follows moving objects (such as arrows or bullets) at high speed creating the first person's viewpoint of the object itself;
- A dolly doll is quick to bring a sudden object away to the center of the frame or to pull back from the main focus object to show what's going on around it (sometimes called "push-pull");
- Match sequence with an overlapping close-up shot to set a set of similar actions over time.
- Close up extreme using a wide-angle lens.
In the documentary film Making The Amazing on DVD Spider-Man 2, both Tobey Maguire and Bruce Campbell with humor illustrate Raimi's propensity for "abusive" actors. To get detailed details of the debrised characters, Raimi stands from camera throwing items, swings, etc., to the actor in the center of the shot. The scene from the documentary shows that Raimi is the one who throws popcorn at Peter Parker while walking to the wrestling ring on Spider-Man and throws a gold coin around during the bank robbery scene in Spider-Man 2 , as well as a pedestrian by hitting their bags to Peter Parker's head as he kneels on the sidewalk of his campus campus to Sam Raimi.
In many Raimi movies, the camera itself is part of the action on screen. One of Raimi's most famous sequences involves point-of-view shots from actor Bruce Campbell being chased through the cabin by an invisible demonic force.

Personal life
Raimi has been married since 1993 to Gillian Dania Greene, daughter of actor Lorne Greene. They have five children, three of whom (Emma Rose's daughter and son Lorne and Henry) appear as extras in Drag Me to Hell, and in Spider-Man 3 during the battle movie last.
She is the older brother of actor Ted Raimi and the younger brother of screenwriter Ivan Raimi. His sister is Andrea Raimi Rubin. The older brother, Sander Raimi, died at the age of 15 by drowning; Sam Raimi says that the trauma keeps the remaining families closer together and "coloring [everything] that [he did] for the rest of his life."
