Until June 30, 2014, there are 19 public holidays in Puerto Rico . As a result of the new Commonwealth law, after July 1, 2014, the Commonwealth government consolidated three of its previous vacations (Luis MuÃÆ' à ± oz Rivera, JosÃÆ'à © Celso Barbosa, and Luis MuÃà à ± oz MarÃÆ'n) being the only one called DÃÆ'a de los PrÃÆ'óceres PuertorriqueÃÆ' à ± os (Day of the Enchanted Puerto Ricans), and reduce the number of publicly observed holidays to 17. As part of the new law, the third Monday of February becomes DÃÆ'a de los PrÃÆ'óceres PuertorriqueÃÆ' à ± os when, in addition to commemorating the births of these three famous Puerto Ricans will also include commemorating the birthdays of four other famous Puerto Ricans - RamÃÆ'ón Emeterio Betances, RomÃÆ'án Baldorioty de Castro, Ernesto Ramos Antonini and Luis A. FerrÃÆ'à ©. The law mandates that the holidays of Eugenio Maria de Hostos and Jose de Diego holidays will continue to be observed on their respective days as usual.
