Mark Twain Riverboat is an attraction, located in the Disneyland theme park in Anaheim, California, where passengers embark on a beautiful 12-minute ride around the Rivers of America. Originally named Mark Twain Steamboat when the park opened in 1955, the magnificent 5/8 stern-wheeler was the first functional river boat built in the United States for fifty years. Other Disney riverboat attractions now appear in Walt Disney World, Tokyo Disneyland and Disneyland Paris.

Passengers wait for a 150-ton, 28-foot (8.5 m), 105 ft (32 m) boat, which leaves every 25 minutes, inside the sheltered area of ​​Frontierland in the park. Boiler engineers are placed on the lower deck toward the stern. This is where the throttle and reverser are located. From here, boiler engineers control the speed and direction of the river boat. Steam from the boiler is used to drive the rowing wheels and thus pushes the aircraft along the guide.
The voyage on the American River around Tom Sawyer Island features a narration recorded earlier by a river guide voiced by Thurl Ravenscroft, Mark Twain (Peter Renaday), who speaks of his days driving a river boat, and by the captain (absent) "The ship, voiced by Disney voice actor Stephen Stanton.
Almost everyday, Mark Twain started operating as soon as the park opened. On the days when Fantasmic! is being done, the river boat, which plays a role in the show, will close a few hours before the show. History
A Mississippi steamer was included in the plan for the first Disney theme park to be built across the street from its Walt Disney Studios in Burbank, California. Although the park is abandoned for the sake of a much larger Disneyland, the plan to have the river boat attractions is maintained.
Because Mark Twain is the first functional paddle glider built in the United States in fifty years, WED designers conducted extensive research to build it like a river boat built in the steam-powered steamer. The deck is assembled at Disney Studios in Burbank, while the 105-foot hull is built on Todd Shipyards, Los Angeles Division, San Pedro, California (where part of Columbia was built a few years later).
Joe Fowler, the construction supervisor of Disneyland and former naval admiral, insisted on making a drydock for ships along what would become an American River. Walt Disney, dismayed by the large quantities of land taken by large excavations, refers to the first drydock as "Joe's Ditch", and then, "Fowler's Harbor", the name he passes today. However, Disney remains a supporter of the river boat itself, funding its development out of its own pocket when the company's funds fall short.
On the first day of "fill-river", the water pumped into the American River is soaked through the river bed. Fowler quickly found a stock of clay to replace the soil stabilizer used to cross the river, and the second day "fill-river" succeeded.
Mark Twain made its maiden voyage on July 13, 1955, four days before the park officially opened, for a private party celebrating Walt's 30th wedding anniversary and Lillian Disney. Before the party, when Fowler is checking to make sure everything will be ready for 300 invited guests, he finds Lillian sweeping up a pile of rubble and joining to help her.
The opening day of Disneyland brings further trouble to Mark Twain . The local couple Orange County, Kevin and Patricia Sullivan exchanged vows in the bow of the ship as he circled the American River. The groom's dad, Ed Sullivan, a 50-year-old Disney veteran, wears Mark Twain's classic costume for a lifetime ceremony. The couple sealed their appointment by pulling the whistle steamer together. When the American River was drained in 2002, the ship was recorded to have considerable damage to the stomach. It improved in 2004 to repair the stomach, which included replacing the hull. For the 50th Anniversary celebration in 2005, a new, more colorful paint job was applied to a long-lasting river boat.
On Jan. 11, 2016, Mark Twain Riverboat, along with other attractions along the Rivers of America, temporarily closed for Star Wars development: Galaxy's Edge. This resort was reopened on July 29, 2017.

At one time, the Magic Kingdom featured two river boats: Admiral Joe Fowler, sternwheeler named Disneyland construction superintendent, and Richard F. Mark Twain river boats burn biodiesel fuel to heat the boiler, continue to heat the water into steam, which is then diverted to two pistons that rotate paddewewheel. The boat only pulls 18 inches (460 mm) of water, because the river is relatively shallow.
