Captain Jack Sparrow is a fictional character in the Pirates of the Caribbean movie series. The character was created by screenwriter Ted Elliott and Terry Rossio, and played by Johnny Depp. The characterization of Sparrow is based on a combination of The Rolling Stones guitarist, Keith Richards and Looney Tunes cartoon character PepÃÆ' Â © Le Pew. She first appeared in the 2003 film Pirates of the Caribbean: The Black Pearl Curse . He later appeared in the sequel to Dead Man's Chest (2006), At the End of the World (2007), On Stranger Tides (2011), and Dead Men Tell No Tales (2017).

In the movie, Sparrow is one of nine pirates in the Brethren Court, the Pirate King of the Seven Seas. He can be dangerous and survive mostly by using intelligence and negotiation rather than by force, choosing to escape from the most dangerous situations and fighting only when necessary. Sparrow was introduced to regain his ship, Black Pearl , from his deadly first spouse, Hector Barbossa. Then he tried to escape his blood debt to legendary Davy Jones against the East India Trading Company.

The Pirates of the Caribbean series was inspired by Disney theme parks of the same name, and when the trip was revamped in 2006, the Captain Jack Sparrow character was added to it. He titled the legend of Captain Jack Sparrow's attractions at Disney's Hollywood Studios, and is the subject of a spin-off novel, including the Pirates of the Caribbean children's book series: Jack Sparrow, which recounts his teenage years.

Captain Jack Sparrow first appeared in the Black Pearls Curse (2003) when he arrived at Port Royal in Jamaica to confiscate a ship. Despite rescuing Elizabeth Swann (Keira Knightley), the daughter of Governor Weatherby Swann (Jonathan Pryce), from drowning, she was jailed for piracy. That night, a cursed pirate ship called the Black Pearls attacked Port Royal and Elizabeth was kidnapped. Black Pearl captain, Hector Barbossa (Geoffrey Rush), desperately searches for the last gold coin to break the ancient Aztec curse that he and his crew are under. A blacksmith named Will Turner (Orlando Bloom) frees Sparrow to help her save Elizabeth. They confiscated HMS Interceptor and recruited various crew members in Tortuga in Haiti before heading to Isla de Muerta, where Elizabeth was taken prisoner. Along the way, Will learns that Sparrow was captain of the Black Pearl until Barbossa led a rebellion ten years earlier and took over the ship, rewinding Sparrow on an island to die. Sparrow tells Turner that his father is a pirate known as "Bootstrap" Bill Turner.

The rescue effort went awry and Barbossa maroon Jack and Elizabeth were on the same island where he had been stranded at Sparrow before. Elizabeth created a signal shot from the rum barrels and they were rescued by the Royal Navy of England. Sparrow cut a deal with Commodore James Norrington (Jack Davenport) to lead Norrington into the Black Pearl. Norrington refused until Elizabeth, desperate to save Will, spontaneously accepted Norrington's previous marriage proposal. Just before the movie climax battle with the pirates on Isla de Muerta, Sparrow swipe the damned coins from the treasure chest, making himself immortal and capable of dueling Barbossa. He shoots his opponent with a gun he's been carrying for ten years, just as Will breaks the curse, kills Barbossa. Despite assisting the Navy, Sparrow was sentenced to hanging.

At Sparrow's execution at Port Royal, Will saved Sparrow, but they were quickly arrested. Elizabeth intervened, declaring her love for Will being forgiven, while Sparrow escaped by falling off the sea wall. The Black Pearl and his new crew arrive on time to pick it up, and he becomes captain once again. Impressed by the dodgy pirates, Norrington lets him head one day before pursuit.

Dead Man's Chest

A year after the first movie event, Sparrow sought the Dead Man's Chest, which contained the heart of Captain Davy Jones (Bill Nighy). Sparrow bargained with Jones to raise the Black Pearls and make Sparrow captain for thirteen years. Now the debt is overdue, and Sparrow must serve a hundred years on board the Flying Dutchman, or be dragged to a Kraken Locker by Davy Jones. If he can find Sparrow the Dead Man's Chest can free his soul and control Jones and the oceans.

Adding to Sparrow's misery, Lord Cutler Beckett (Tom Hollander) of the East India Trading Company has a personal score to complete with Sparrow. Beckett wanted Will Turner's casket and army to look for Sparrow and his magic compass. Turner puts Sparrow and his crew in Pelegosto, captured by a cannibal intending to eat Sparrow. They fled, and a trip to Tia Dalma (Naomie Harris) (a magical woman later revealed to be the Goddess, Calypso, bound in human form as Dalma, and former lover Jones). Dalma soon sees destiny at Will, and provides Sparrow with a dirt jar - Jones can only set foot on land once every 10 years, and since the land is where Sparrow is safe, Dalma advises with the land he brought to the ground with him.

Sparrow attacked a new deal with Jones to send a hundred lives in exchange for his property. Jones agrees but keeps Turner as "payment in good faith". Sparrow recruited the sailors in Tortuga when he met Elizabeth Swann and James Norrington, the latter for succumbing to alcohol. Sparrow assured Elizabeth that Turner could be released by using a magic compass to find the crate. Duo heads for Isla Cruces and finds Will, who escapes from Jones's ship and has stolen the keys to Dada. Turner wants to stab Jones's heart and free his father from slavery Jones, while Norrington plans to restore his career by giving the heart to Beckett. Sparrow wanted him to convince Jones to stop the Kraken.

Norrington escaped with a heart in the middle of a battle with the crew of Jones, and Jones called the Kraken. Realizing Sparrow was his target, Elizabeth trapped him on the Black Pearl ship when the crew abandoned the ship, and kissed him as he handcuffed him to the mast of the ship. Then, the monster devoured Sparrow and dragged his ship and soul into Davy Jones's Locker. The surviving crew sought refuge with Tia Dalma who produced the captain who said he could save Sparrow: it was his act that revived Barbossa.

At the Tip of the World

Two months after the events of the second film, with the heart of Davy Jones in his possession and the < under his command, Cutler Beckett began wiping out all the pirates. To combat Beckett, nine pirate kings from the Brethren Court gathered at Shipwreck Cove. Only Jack Sparrow is missing, killed and sent to Locker Davy Jones at the end of the previous film. Sparrow, as the Lord of the Caribbean Pirate, must be present, as he does not inherit the heiress designated "a piece of eight", the pirate pirate marker. The collective "nine-piece" eight is needed to free the Calypso sea goddess to defeat Beckett. With Elizabeth Swann (Keira Knightley) and Will Turner, Barbossa leads Sparrow's crew to Davy Jones's Locker using a stolen navigation chart from pirate master Sao Feng (Chow Yun-fat). Once the crew finds it, Sparrow breaks down the hints on the charts allowing them to escape from Locker.

In the Brethren Court, Elizabeth has replaced Captain Sao Feng as the Pirate King and was elected a "Pirate King" after Sparrow broke the deadlock. Sparrow briefly reunited with his father, Captain Teague (Keith Richards). During the parley with Beckett and Jones, Sparrow traded for Turner, who captured Jones and Beckett. When Sparrow negotiated with Beckett in a long version of the film, he revealed that he had waded through the Black Pearl under Beckett's command, but left after refusing to take the slave cargo. The Black Pearl fights with the Flying Dutchman during the vortex made by Calypso, where Sparrow steals Jones's heart to become immortal. When Jones seriously injured Turner, Sparrow instead chose to save Turner by helping him stab at the heart, which killed Jones and turned Turner into Dutch trainer. Together, Pearl and Dutchman destroyed Beckett's ship. In the end, Barbossa again commanded Pearl's and Sao Feng's charts, against Sparrow and Gibbs in Tortuga. However, Sparrow managed to cut off the navigation part of the charts and together they started looking for the legendary Fountain of Youth.

On Stranger Tides

After failing to find the Fountain of Youth, Sparrow arrived in London just to learn someone to collect the crew by using his name. When looking for a great scam, he saved Gibbs from being suspended but arrested by the Guardian of the Kingdom. They hand it over to King George II. Sparrow was surprised to know Captain Barbossa is now a privateer at Royal Navy. Sparrow refuses to negotiate with them to find the Fountain of Youth and escape. Immediately he crossed the street with his driver, an old flame called Angelica (Penà © lope Cruz). He shanghais him to serve on the vessel Queen Anne's Return , ship captain by his father Blackbeard (Ian McShane), who forced the Sparrow to search the Fountain of Youth.

Sparrow failed in his attempt to take over the ship in an insurrection against Blackbeard and rescue the naive Angelica from his evil father. After meeting a dangerous mermaid, Barbossa, and the Spanish Navy, Sparrow placed the Youth Fountain. When Angelica gets hurt, she tricks Blackbeard to sacrifice herself to save her, and Angelica blames Sparrow for his father's death. Sparrow and Angelica confess their feelings to each other, but Sparrow lures Angelica on an island, believing that he might avenge his father's death. Gibbs, meanwhile, has retrieved the shrunken Black Pearl shrunken from the Blackbeard collection from the shrinking ship in hopes of restoring it to its normal size. Though he has lost his chance for immortality, Sparrow is silent because he is famous as the one who discovered the Youth Fountain. Following the final credits of the film, Angelica's voodoo doll from Sparrow has drifted to the island where she was stranded.

Dead Men Tell No Tales

Sparrow is back in the fifth movie, played once again by Johnny Depp. Five years after the Fountain of Youth quest, Jack has reassembled a small crew, but the Black Pearl is still trapped in a bottle, his new ship Dying Gull has never left the berth, and plans the latter has failed. Meanwhile, rival Barbossa has become the richest and most powerful pirate of the seven oceans.

Sparrow and his crew tried to rob a new bank St. Martin. The robbery was a success, but all the gold in it fell when they dragged the locker, and the Sparrow crew left it. Desperately, Jack trades his magical compass for a drink. However, this betrayal of the compass releases the old enemy of Sparrow, who holds a serious grudge against him; brutal undead pirate hunter, Captain Salazar. Years before, Jack had defeated Salazar by tricking him into sailing a ship into the Devil's Triangle, where Salazar and his crew were cursed to live as the undead. Salazar states that Jack is perched on the rigs of a ship like a "little bird", naming him "Jack the Sparrow". During this event Jack received his compass, as well as his characteristic fixtures.

While in jail, Jack is contacted by Henry Turner, Will's son and Elizabeth, to seek his help in finding the Trident of Poseidon. Given Elizabeth and Will from his previous misfortune, Jack agrees but not before revealing some hesitation. The next day, Sparrow was sentenced to be executed by guillotine (by Jack who coincidentally chose), but was rescued by Henry and his crew. Assisted by the prospective astronomer Carina, Jack and Henry are trying to find the Trident of Poseidon, as both need their strength to break the curse associated with the ocean. Barbossa releases Pearl from his bottle, giving them a chance to run faster than Salazar. Jack and Barbossa discuss the fact that Carina is actually the missing Barbossa's old daughter, whom she left in an orphanage to give her a chance for a better life. Jack tried to use the secret to blackmail Barbossa, but failed.

They can trace the Trident to their resting place. Although Salazar almost killed Jack, they were able to destroy the Trident. With the destruction of the Trident, Salazar and his crew become mortal again. Jack, Henry, and Carina escape as Barbossa sacrifices herself to kill Salazar. Regardless of their differences, Jack mourned Barbossa's death. Then, Jack sees Will and Elizabeth's reunion before he leaves, the Black Pearl and his compass once again belongs to him.

Concepts and creations

Character

While writing scenarios for the Black Pearl Curse, Ted Elliott and Terry Rossio imagine Captain Jack Sparrow as a supporting character in the Bugs Bunny and Groucho Marx vessels. The producers see it as the young Lancaster Burt. Director Gore Verbinski admits, "The first film is a movie, and then Jack put in it almost. He does not have the plot duty in the same way as other characters. He looks at the road, and he kind of influences others." Sparrow represents pirates ethically, with Captain Barbossa as his corrupt foil. His true motives usually remain closed, and whether he is honorable or evil depends on the perspective of the audience. It acts as part of the Will Turner arc, where Sparrow tells him the pirate can be a good person, just like his father.

Following the success of the Black Pearl Curse, the challenge of making the sequel is, according to Verbinski, "You do not just want the Jack Sparrow movie. It's like having a garlic milkshake. spices and you need lots of straight men... Let's not give them too much Jack. It's like too much dessert or too much of a good thing. "Although Dead Man's Chest was written to encourage the trilogy plot, Sparrow's state-of-mind as he was pursued by Davy Jones became increasingly tense, and the authors fabricated a cannibal sequence to show that he was in danger whether on land or at sea, Sparrow is confused by his interest in Elizabeth Swann, and tries to justify it throughout the movie.

At the End of the World is intended to return it faithfully to the character section. Sparrow, in particular, was stained with insanity after an extended isolation cage at Locker Davy Jones, and now wants immortality. Sparrow struggled with what it takes to be a moral person, after his honest honesty caused his destruction in the second film. This is primarily indicated by the increasingly uncertain behavior and the hallucination of Jack, who seems to be only his crazy mind at first where dozens of "Jack Sparrows" appear to be crewmembers in solitary exile, but then hallucinations grow more important and there are mainly two "Jacks "continues to argue about which path to follow: immortality or mortality. The last hallucinations occurred when Jack was imprisoned in a Dutch man, where his honest victory won. At the end of At the End of the World , Sparrow sailed to Fountain of Youth, the initial concept for the second film. Rossio said in 2007 that the fourth film was possible, and producer Jerry Bruckheimer expressed interest in spin-offs. Gore Verbinski agrees that "all the stories directed by the first film have been completed, and if there is another Pirates of the Caribbean movie, I will start refreshing and focus on the next adventure of Captain Jack Sparrow."

On Stranger Tides was first announced on September 28, 2008, during a Disney show at Kodak Theater. Verbinski did not return to direct the fourth installment and was replaced by Rob Marshall. The film uses elements from Tim Powers novel of the same name, especially Blackbeard and Fountain of Youth, but the film is not a direct adaptation of the novel.

Johnny Depp

Looking to do a family movie, Johnny Depp visited Walt Disney Studios in 2001 when he heard plans to adapt the Pirates of the Caribbean ride to the film. Depp was pleased with the possibility of reviving the old Hollywood genre, and found the script met with a unique sensitivity: the Black Pearl crew did not look for treasure but tried to return it to lift the curse. on them, and a traditional insurrection has already taken place. Depp was released on June 10, 2002. Producer Jerry Bruckheimer feels Depp will provide a movie that can attract teen and adult audiences despite Disney's reputation for soft childrens tariffs.

At the first reading, Depp surprised the cast and crew by portraying the characters in an off-order manner. He studied the 18th-century pirates and, seeing parallels with modern rock stars, modeled his performance on Keith Richards. Richards later appeared in two cameos as Jack's father, Captain Teague, at At the End of the World and On Stranger Tides . Verbinski and Bruckheimer have confidence in Depp, in part because Orlando Bloom will play the traditional character of Errol Flynn. Depp improvised the last line of the movie, "Now, give me that horizon", which the author calls his favorite line. The Disney executive was initially confused by Depp's performance, questioning whether the character was drunk or gay. While watching the bustle, Disney CEO Michael Eisner proclaimed Depp had ruined the movie. Depp's response to Disney executives is that they can trust him by his choice or let him go. Many people in the industry question the casting of Depp, as he is an unconventional actor who is not known to work in traditional studio systems.

Depp's performance won praise from film critics. Alan Morrison found it "Very over-the-top... In terms of physical accuracy and verbal delivery, this is a master class in acting comedy." Roger Ebert praised Depp for withdrawing from characters as written and finding the performance of Depp "genuine in every atom." There was never a pirate, or in this case a human, like this in another movie... showing his behavior, a lifetime of practice ". Depp won the Screen Actor's Guild award for his performance, and was nominated for the Golden Globe and Academy Award for Best Actor, the first in his career. School Rejects film thinks the film makes Depp a movie star because he is a character actor.

The return of Depp at Dead Man's Chest is the first time she has made a sequel. Drew McWeeny writes, "Remember how cool is Han Solo in Star Wars when you first saw him? And then remember how much cooler he was when the Empire came out? It's that big jump." Depp received the MTV Movie Award and Teen Choice Award for Dead Man's Chest , and was nominated for the Empire Award and other Golden Globes. For his performance at At World End , Depp won the MTV Movie Award for Best Comedic Performance, as well as the People's Choice Award, Child Choice Award, and other Teen Choice Awards. He has signed to repeat the role for the sequel to the future.

Make-up and costume

Depp is wearing a dreadlock wig with a rock-and-roll approach to the aesthetics of pirates. She wore a red bandana and many things in her hair, influenced by Keith Richards's habit of collecting souvenirs from her journey; Sparrow's decoration includes its "piece of eight". Sparrow wears kohl around his eyes, inspired by Depp's studies of nomads, which he compares to pirates, and he wears contacts that act as sunglasses. Sparrow has several gold teeth, two of which belong to Depp, although they are applied during filming. Depp initially forgot to remove it after firing on the Black Pearl Curse , and wore it throughout the sequel shooting. Like all aspects of Depp's performance, Disney initially expressed great concern over Depp gears. Sparrow wears his beard with two braids. Initially the wire was used in it, but the cables were abandoned because they made the braids stick when Depp lay. Sparrow has many tattoos, and has been branded a pirate on his right arm by Cutler Beckett, under a sparrow tattoo.

Depp collaborated with costume designer Penny Rose on her character appearance, handpicking tricorne as Sparrow's distinctive leather hat; to make Sparrow unique, other characters do not wear leather caps. The rubber version is used for scenes in Dead Man's Chest when the hat floats on the water. Depp likes to stick to one costume, wearing a lightweight silk wool coat over the entire series, and he should be persuaded to wear his boots for a version without one or heels in the beach scene. The official line is that no costumes from the surviving Black Pearl Curse , allowing the opportunity to make more stringent linen shirts for stunts. However, one remnant has been featured in a display costume showcase in Worcester, England. Nightmare for Rose to track down the same Sparrow sparrow maker in Turkey. Rose does not want the silkscreen, because the homewoven pieces have the right nuance to wear. Sparrow wears an additional belt in the sequel, because Depp likes the new buckle that does not fit the original piece.

The Sparrow weapon is an original piece of the 18th century: the sword dates from the 1740s and the pistol comes from the 1760s. Both are made in London. Depp uses two pistols on the set, one from rubber. Both survived the first film production. Sparrow's magic compass also survived into the sequel, although director Gore Verbinski had a red arrow added to the dial when it became a more prominent prop. Because it does not work like a normal compass, the magnet is used to make it rotate. Sparrow wears four rings, two of which belong to Depp. Depp bought a green ring in 1989 and the gold ring was a replica of a 2400 year old ring that Depp handed to the crew, even though the original was then stolen. The other two are props that Depp gives backstories: gold-and-black rings stolen from the spiced Sparrow spanish widow and green dragon ring given his adventures in the Far East. Among Depp's additional ideas are the necklaces made from human toes Sparrow used when Pelegosto prepares to eat them, and the stick is based on a friend owned by Depp.

During the trilogy journey, Sparrow undergoes a physical transformation. In the Black Pearl Curse, Sparrow cursed himself against the Barbossa undead. Like all actors who play the crew of Black Pearl, Depp must record the scene in the costume as a reference for the animators, and his shooting as a skeleton is shot again without him. Depp repressed the scene again at the stage of motion capture. At At The Edge of the World , Sparrow interpreted his version as a member of Davy Jones crew, attached to a wall and studded with barnacles. Verbinski oversaw that the design retains Sparrow's distinctive look, and rejects the early design that describes it as over 100 years old.

Characterization

According to screenwriter Ted Elliott and Terry Rossio, Sparrow is a fraudster who uses intelligence and lies to achieve his goals, preferring to end the dispute verbally instead of by force. He walks with a slightly drunk pride and has slurred speech and hand groping. Sparrow is smart, calculating, and eccentric. He tricked Norrington and his crew into sailing on the Interceptor's royal ship, which forced the admiration of Lieutenant Groves when he admitted: "That must be the best pirate I've ever seen". Norrington himself approves this praise: "So it seems," in stark contrast to what he previously stated: "You are without doubt the worst pirate I have ever heard". In the third film, when he left Beckett's ship stranded and left, Lieutenant Groves asked him, "Do you think he planned it all, or just made it up?"

Although a skilled swordsman, Sparrow preferred to use his superior intelligence during combat, exploited his environment to change the table of his enemies, arguing "Why fight when you can negotiate?" He uses nonviolent negotiation strategies and transforms his enemies against one another. He summoned the parittys and tempted his enemies from the intent of killing them, prompting them to see the bigger picture, as he did when he persuaded Barbossa to delay back into mortal form so he could fight the Royal Navy. He often uses complicated vocabulary and vocabulary to disrupt his enemies, and suggested that pacifism might be one of the reasons Barbossa and crew of the Black Pearl rebelled.

Characters are described as having created, or at least contributed to, his own reputation. When Gibbs told Will that Sparrow had escaped from a desert island by tying two turtles together, Sparrow graced the story by claiming that the rope was made of hair from his own back, while in fact, Sparrow fled the island in exchange for rum traders. Video game Pirates of the Caribbean: Legend of Jack Sparrow based himself on these tall tales, including the sacking of Nassau port without firing a shot. Depp has likened pirates to rock stars where their fame preceded them. Sparrow insists on being called "Captain" and often gives farewell, "This is a day you always remember as the day you almost captured Captain Jack Sparrow!" which is sometimes funny cut off. When Norrington accused him of being the worst pirate he had ever heard, Sparrow replied, "But you have heard of me." In the deleted scene of the Black Pearl Curse Reflecting the Crow became "The Everlasting Captain Jack Sparrow", and during At the End of the World he is again interested in immortality, even father, Captain Teague , warned it could be a terrible curse. Sparrow pondered "Captain Jack Sparrow, the last pirate," because the East India Trading Company removed the hijacking.

Despite its many heroics, Sparrow is a pirate and an ambiguous moral character. When he agreed to trade 100 people, including Will, to Davy Jones in return for his freedom, Jones asked Sparrow if he could, "curse an innocent person - a friend - for a lifetime of slavery in your name when you wandering around for free? "After hesitating, Sparrow happily replied," Yep! I'm fine with that! " He carelessly makes debts with Anamaria, Davy Jones, and other pirate nobles. Sao Feng, the ruler of Singapore's pirates, hated him so much. In a moment of cowardice, Sparrow left his crew during the Kraken attack, but the underlying loyalty and morality forced him to return and save them. Sparrow claims to be the man whose words, and expresses surprise that people doubt the truth; no murder of his criminal record.

Depp is based partly on the character on PepÃÆ' Â © Le Pew, a skunk of a woman from Looney Tunes . Sparrow claims to have "the tremendous intuitive feelings of female creatures," though his conquests are often left with sour memories of him. Former flames, Scarlett and Giselle, usually slap her or anyone who's looking for her. The charm of her talisman easily attracted women, and even Elizabeth questioned her feelings. Verbinski noted the phallic connotation in Sparrow's relationship with his ship, as he grasped the wheels of the ship. The Black Pearl is described as "the only ship that can run faster than Flying Dutchman ". Freudian tones continued in the third film when Sparrow and Barbossa fought to captain the Black Pearl, showcased their telescopes, and in the deleted scene, they fought on the steering wheel. Sparrow claims his "first and only love is the sea," and describes his ship as freedom. Locker Davy Jones is represented as a desert, symbolizing his personal hell.
