Elena Delle Donne born September 5, 1989) is an American professional basketball player for the Washington Mystics of the Women's National Basketball Association (WNBA).

High school career
Delle Donne gained national recognition as a high school basketball star at Ursuline Academy in Wilmington, Delaware. He led Ursuline to three Delaware State Championship titles and was ranked number one in high school by Scout.com and McDonald's All-American. He was the first and only student in Ursulin so far to score 2,000 points during his high school career and also set a national high school record for successive free throws made (80) in 2005-2006.
Delle Donne is also called WBCA All-American. She participated in the 2007 WBCA High School All-America Game, where she scored 17 points, and earned MVP awards for the Red team.
He also participated in volleyball. Delle Donne won the DIAA state championship with Ursuline in 2007. He recorded 20 high seasons against Padua during the number-one and two-team matches in the state.
College career
After an incredible preparatory career in which he became the most praised female basketballer since Candace Parker, Delle Donne received a basketball scholarship from the University of Connecticut. However, in early June 2008, Delle Donne suddenly dropped out of the Connecticut summer school program after just two days in Storrs. Delle Donne is very close to her family, especially her sister, Lizzie, who has cerebral palsy and is blind and deaf. He is not ready to be separated from his family. Delle Donne did not continue on the volleyball team in 2009, but joined the basketball team.
On June 2, 2009, Delle Donne announced that she would play basketball for Blue Hens in the 2009-10 season as a redshirt student. In 2012, ESPN writer Graham Hays said of his return to the sport "it can not be coincidence that that year Gene returned to Delaware and worked for his father's company." In a 2016 interview with ESPN, Delle Donne also recalled a trip he took during the summer of 2009 to the school Lizzie had visited. While there, she meets another woman at school, a basketball fan who uses a wheelchair because of cerebral palsy, who tells her, "Elena, do everything you can with your abilities, like we do."
Delle Donne has a very productive new season. He averages 26.7 points per game, the third highest of all female Division I basketball players. He scored 54 points in defeat against James Madison on 18 February 2010, which was the highest single point single point by Division I basketball players that season. He was named Rookie CAA in Week six times, and players in once a week during 2009-10.
She was voted "CAE's Best Player of the Year" and "Rookie of the Year" in women's basketball by CAA coaches, director of sports and media information. Delaware is the CAA champion, who qualified for the NCAA Women's Division Tournament Division I 2012. Delle Donne scored 39 points from 56 points of first Blue Hens in their first-round win over UALR. During the 2012-13 season, Delle Donne struggled again against Lyme's disease, losing four matches due to the disease. The 2014 regular season has Delle Donne only playing 16 games due to Lyme's disease, averaging less than 19 minutes in the last seven games. Eventually he got up during the playoffs, helping Sky beat Atlanta Dream in the first half, scoring 34 points and a game-winning shot with 8.2 seconds left as Sky erased a 17-point deficit with 8:12 remaining in the decider game. However, Delle Donne nudged while away for a rebound in the Atlanta series, suffering a back injury that reduced his playing time in the next round against Indiana Fever. The Sky still has to go to the WNBA final, where they lost to Phoenix Mercury. Delle Donne only played 10 minutes in the first game, before taking the medication to play 68 minutes and scoring 45 points over the last two games.
On September 16, 2015, Delle Donne was named WVBA MVP for the 2015 season. He scored a league-high 23.4 points per game, firing 95% of career highs from the free throw line and was ranked third on the rebound. He received 38 of the first 39 voices. During the regular season, Delle Donne scored a career-high 45 points in an overtime win against the Atlanta Dream, while setting a WNBA record, 19 free throws in a row.
Delle Donne has played in two NBA All-Star Celebrity Games, in 2014 and 2016.
In the 2016 season, Delle Donne averaged 21.5 ppg helped Sky to another playoff spot when they finished 18-16. With the new WNBA playoff format in force, Sky is seeded # 4 in the league with a bye into the second half. Unfortunately, Delle Donne suffered an injury in her right thumb due to loss of Washington Mystics. Delle Donne will undergo a season-ending operation which will also keep him out of the playoffs. Delle Donne played 28 games in the season before the injury. Without Delle Donne, Sky still has a decent playoff, progressing to the semi-finals (the last round before the WNBA final) in which they lost 3-1 to Los Angeles Sparks who will win the championship.
With Delle Donne approaching a limited free agent status and his rookie contract expiring, he was traded to Washington Mystics in exchange for Stefanie Dolson, Kahleah Copper and second overall choice in the 2017 WNBA draft just days before the start of free agent.
On May 14, 2017, Delle Donne made his debut for Mystics, scoring the team's 26th highest points in a 89-74 victory over the San Antonio Star. On May 19, 2017, Delle Donne scored a season-high 27 in a 99-89 loss on the Los Angeles Sparks. During the absence of Emma Meesseman, Delle Donne will play beyond her natural position as an early force for Mystic. On July 14, 2017, Delle Donne suffered a sprained right ankle in a game against Indiana Fever, which caused him to lose the 2017 WNBA All-Star Game. On July 25, 2017, Delle Donne scored a new 29-point high of the season along with 10 rebounds in the win 85-76 against the San Antonio Stars after returning from an ankle injury. In a first-half elimination game, Mystics beat Dallas Wings 86-76, Delle Donne scored 25 points and grabbed 11 rebounds. They advanced to a second-round elimination game, where they beat 3rd-seeded New York Liberty, 82-68, advanced to the semi-finals, making it the first time in franchise history where Mystics has advanced through the second round. Delle Donne scored 18 points and grabbed 10 rebounds in the win. In the semi final, Mystics will be defeated by Minnesota Lynx in 3 games.
In the 2018 season, with Meesseman sitting out of season to play for the Belgian Team at the FIBA ​​World Tournament, Delle Donne will play in a power forward position in the starting lineup. On June 13, 2018, Delle Donne scored a season-high 36 points in a 95-91 victory over Connecticut Sun.
Career abroad
Unlike most WNBA players, Delle Donne usually does not play abroad, instead choosing to spend the traditional basketball season in the US to help take care of his sister, Lizzie. On April 27, 2016, Della Donne was named the United States 2016 team that competed at the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. During the eighth US team's gold medal campaign, he was a role player, starting from the bench in seven games and sitting in a game against China due to an eye injury received during training. Personal life
Delle Donne was born in Wilmington, Delaware. Her parents are Ernie, a real estate developer, and Joanie. Her brother, Gene, played college football as a tight end, first at Duke, then in Middle Tennessee. After he graduated from Middle Tennessee in 2009, he returned to Delaware to work at their father's company. Her sister, Elizabeth (Lizzie), blind, deaf, autistic and has cerebral palsy. While most WNBA players use offseason to play for other leagues abroad, Delle Donne usually uses it to take care of Lizzie.
In 2008, during his senior year in high school, Delle Donne was diagnosed with Lyme disease after being bitten by an infected tick in his family's home property in Delaware. Delle Donne stated that he consumed "about 50 supplements a day" and maintained a healthy meal to combat the disease.
In February 2014, Delle Donne was named the Special Olympic Global Ambassador. He also played in the third NBA Cares Special Olympics Unified Basketball Game over the All-Star weekend, alongside Special Olympics athletes, NBA legends and current WNBA and NBA players. Delle Donne plans to create the Elena Delle Donne Charitable Foundation, which will combine initiatives for awareness of the Special Olympics and Lyme disease.
Delle Donne announces her engagement to her old boyfriend Amanda Clifton in the August 2016 edition of Vogue . On November 3, 2017, Delle Donne and Clifton married.

Since conceptualized in WNBA, Delle Donne has signed several support agreements with various companies. In 2013, Delle Donne signed a support agreement with Nike and DuPont, a science company based in his hometown of Wilmington, Delaware.
