Fictional character biography

Origin

Ollie Osnick is an overweight and talented teen who idolized Doctor Octopus. Using his genius, Ollie designed his own mechanical tentacles and called himself Kid Ock . He influenced a group of children to dress up as super villains, but they immediately ran towards him. Ollie finally escaped from the house and into a toy store.

There, he keeps the elderly guard unconscious, though Ollie believes he has killed him. When Spider-Man arrived at the scene, he believed that Dr. Octopus is working, so he's after Ollie. Fortunately Spider-Man realized in time that it was not the Ock he was facing. When Spider-Man and Ollie fell into the water tank, Spider-Man easily tore off the tentacles, something he could never do with Ock. Dragging Ollie to the surface, he learns it's actually Ollie he's chasing. Just then the guard returns conscious, and Spider-Man returns Ollie home safely.

Impressed with Spider-Man, Ollie modifies his tentacles into spider-feet and dons Spider-Man Halloween costumes, calling himself Spider-Kid . The heroic activities of Ollie often result in him having to be rescued by Spider-Man. He was involved (along with Frog-Man and Toad) in a team of short-lived superheroes called The Misfits. Ollie is finally convinced to hang up his costume and become a normal kid.

However, in his college years, Ollie has changed radically. She has devoted herself to exercising and being very athletic. Ollie is still fantasizing about being a hero, continuing to invent new weapons and modifying his profit-legs. When his girlfriend is paralyzed by robbers, Ollie seeks revenge and creates a "Steel Spider" identity, dressed in a dark blue costume, and equips himself with all these new weapons (including gloves containing grapple hook launchers and pepper spray blasters). Steel Spider puts and tortures his girlfriend's attackers. She removes her costume, realizing that she never wanted to be a vigilante and preferred to build a life with the girl she loved.

When the Onslaught attack invaded New York City, he was mentioned as one of the heroes who helped fight the attacking Sentinel, working with Darkhawk and New Warriors to reclaim the Brooklyn Bridge.

Civil War

Equipped with a new set of weapons, Ollie Osnick now features a more rebellious stance against the Superhero Registration Act. As an unlisted superhero, Ollie became a target for the government Thunderbolt team. His name also caused Thunderbolts director Norman Osborn to fall into laughter, because it reminded him of Spider-Man. After beating some drunken people, Ollie became frightened of the government-sponsored Thunderbolt.

Ollie fights Thunderbolt, and joins in his battle by American Eagle and Sepulcher. After successfully defeating Venom, Radioactive Man, and the new Swordsman, he uses gadgetry on his metal foot to join Radioactive Man, Songbird, Venom and Penance, commenting that having an ally "almost makes this a fair battle, I'm sure they do not expect that." As the battle progresses, Ollie seems to be holding it alone until Venom bites Ollie's left arm and eats it. Ollie is then shown locked up in Prison 42 in the Negative Zone.
