Princess Leia Organa of Alderaan (also Senator Leia Organa or General Leia Organa ) is a fictitious character in the Star Wars franchise , portrayed in the film by Carrie Fisher. Introduced in the original movie Star Wars in 1977, Leia is the daughter of the planet Alderaan, a member of the Imperial Senate and an agent of the Rebel Alliance. He thwarted the evil Sith Lord Darth Vader and helped bring the destruction of the Royal Empire's emperor's weapon, Death Star. In The Empire Strikes Back (1980), Leia orders the Rebels base and avoids Vader when she falls in love with smuggler Han Solo. In the Return of Jedi (1983), Leia leads an operation to rescue Han from the criminal ruler Jabba the Hutt, and is revealed to be the daughter of Vicker and twin brother Luke Skywalker. The prequel movie Revenge of the Sith (2005) specifies that the twins' mother is the Senator (and former queen) Padmà © à Amidala of Naboo, who died after giving birth. Leia was adopted by Senator Bail and Queen Breha Organa of Alderaan. In The Force Awakens (2015) and The Last Jedi (2017), Leia is the founder and General of the Resistance against the First Order. She and Han have a son named Ben, who adopted Kylo Ren's name after switching to the dark side of the Force.
In the novel series of Star Wars Legends novels, comics and video games (1977-2014), arranged in alternative sustainability, Leia continues his adventures with Han and Luke after the Return of Jedi against Imperial awakening and new threats to the galaxy. He became Head of State of the New Republic and Jedi Master, and mother of three children by Han: Jaina, Jacen and Anakin Solo.
One of the more popular Star Wars characters, Leia is referred to as an icon of the 1980s, heroes and feminist models for other adventure heroes. She has appeared in many derivative works and merchandising, and has been referenced or parodied in some TV shows and movies. The "cinnamon" hairstyle of Star Wars (1977) and the metal bikini of Jedi's Return has become a cultural icon.

Creating and casting
Leia was created by Star Wars creator George Lucas. In 1999, Lucas explained the early developments of Leia, Luke, and Obi-Wan Kenobi:
The first version speaks of a princess and an old general. The second version involves a father, his son, and his daughter; his daughter is a heroine in this movie. Now her daughter has become Luke, the character of Mark Hamill. There is also the story of two brothers where I turn one into a sister. His older brother was imprisoned, and the younger sister had to rescue her and bring her back to their father.
Film historian Laurent Bouzereau noted in his 1997 book Star Wars: The Annotated Screenplays that in the rough drama Star Wars, Leia is a spoiled teenager King Kayos and the spoiled Queen Breha. from Aquilae, with two brothers, Biggs and Windy; Biggs returns to the fourth draft as Luke's childhood friend. According to Skywalking: The Life and Films of George Lucas (1999), Luke Skywalker was originally Luke Starkiller and Leia was "the daughter of Owen Lars and his wife Beru and apparently was Luke's cousin with them visiting his mother's grave , who died with his father on a planet destroyed by Death Star. "JW Rinzler explains in Star Wars Creation: The Definitive Story Behind Original Films (2007) that the synopsis of the next story sets Leia as" Leia Antilles " , the daughter of Bail Antilles from the peaceful world of Organa Major. In the fourth draft it was stipulated that "Leia Organa" came from Alderaan.
Fisher was 19 years old when he played Princess Leia, with actresses including Amy Irving, Cindy Williams and Jodie Foster also playing a role. In 2014, InkTank reported that the long list of "more than two dozen actresses" who had auditioned for Leia included Glenn Close, Farrah Fawcett, Jessica Lange, Sissy Spacek, Sigourney Weaver, Cybill Shepherd, Jane Seymour, Anjelica Huston, Kim Basinger, Kathleen Turner, Geena Davis, and Meryl Streep. Asked about Streep in 2015, Fisher said, "I've never heard anything like that, but Jodie Foster is ready for that... the best I know, Amy Irving and Jodie.
The second draft of the Return of the Jedi scenario contains a dialogue in which Obi-Wan tells Luke that he has twin siblings. She and their mother "were sent to the protection of friends in a distant system.Mother died shortly afterwards, and Luke's sister was adopted by Ben's friends, governor Alderaan and his wife." Fisher explains in 1983: "Leia's biological father left his mother when she became pregnant, so her mother married this King of Organa, I was adopted and grew apart from others because I was a princess."
Composer John Williams creates the main musical motif for Leia repeating all over the Star Wars saga. "Princess Leia's Theme" was recorded as a concert suite (4:18 in length) for the 1977 film score.

Character
Anthony Breznican from Entertainment Weekly described Leia as "diplomat, spy, warrior, secret agent". Mark Edlitz called him "an intelligent, courageous, courageous diplomat and soldier" at The Huffington Post. Fisher told Rolling Stone in 1983:
There are many people who do not like my character in these movies; they think I'm some kind of space prostitute. He has no friends, no family; his planet detonated in seconds... so all he has is the cause. From the first film [ Star Wars ], he was just a soldier, front and center. The only way they know to make a strong character is to anger him. In The Return of Jedi , she becomes more feminine, more supportive, more affectionate.
He said in 2014:
I prefer to play Han Solo. When I first read the script, I thought it was the part that should be, always sour and cynical. She always does. I feel like a lot of time Leia is worried or upset or, thank God, sort of snarky. But I'm much more worried and upset than Han Solo, and it's not a fun thing to play... I have fun killing Jabba the Hutt. They asked me on the day if I wanted to have a double action killing Jabba. No! It was the best time I ever had as an actor. And the only reason to act is if you can kill a giant monster.

Star Wars
Introduced in the original 1977 film Star Wars, Princess Leia Organa of Alderaan is a member of the Imperial Senate. He was arrested by Darth Vader on board the Tantative IV, where he acted as a spy for the Rebel Alliance. Leia secretly hides the blueprint for Death Star, the imperial moon-sized battle station, inside the R2-D2 astromech droid and has sent it to find one of the last Jedi, Obi-Wan Kenobi, on nearby Tatooine planet. Vader catches Leia and tortures her, but she refuses to reveal anything. Star Death Commander Grand Moff Tarkin threatens to destroy his home planet Alderaan with Death Star unless he reveals the location of a hidden rebel base. He provided the old location, the abandoned base, but Tarkin ordered Alderaan to be destroyed anyway. Leia is saved by Luke Skywalker and Han Solo, and they escape aboard the Han, Millennium Falcon . After analyzing the Death Star scheme, the Rebels found a small weakness at the battle station, which Luke used to destroy it on an X-wing fighter. Battle win, Leia bestows medals on heroes at Rebel's base hidden in Yavin 4.
Alyssa Rosenberg dari The Washington Post menulis tentang Leia dalam film:
Leia's nerves as a revolutionary have been clear ever since she arrived on screen... She took a shot at the Storm Troopers who boarded her ship, stunned with a blaster in her hand, then had the courage to try to make Darth Vader feel ashamed of herself... She has the remaining energy just after a cruel torture session to insult Grand Moff Tarkin. And while she grieves when her home planet, Alderaan, is destroyed by Death Star, Leia is not paralyzed: when an unexpected savior appears, she is ready to leave, and complains about their operational carelessness.
Rosenberg also notes that, although Han is almost immediately attracted to Leia, they are in conflict because he insists on asserting command and he automatically refuses, even when he proves himself worthy of it. And despite the initial contempt for the smuggler, whom he sees as selfish, Leia later admits "I know there is more to you than money" when Han comes through for the Rebellion.
Fisher told Rolling Stone in 1980 that in the original manuscript, when Luke and Han came to rescue captured Leia, "I was hanged upside down with yellow eyes, as in The Exorcist ... Some form of radar torture was done to me and I was in a beam, bruised and beaten, hung in the air, the reason being cut from the movie because I was not aware and Wookiee had to take me for, like, the next fifteen minutes.
Empire Strikes Back
In The Empire Strikes Back (1980), Leia is at Rebel's headquarters in Hoth. He led the evacuation during the Imperial attack, and then fled with Han, Chewbacca and C-3PO on Han's ship, Millennium Falcon. They avoided pursuing Imperial TIE fighters by flying into an asteroid field when Falcon broken hyperdrive, with Leia steering the ship at one point. The flower of romance between Leia and Han during their flight from the Empire; while hiding in the belly of a space snail, they end up sharing a kiss. With his ship being repaired, Han looks for his old friend, Lando Calrissian in Cloud City, floating town on Bespin. Though he welcomes them gracefully, Lando immediately transforms them into the newly arrived Darth Vader, who hopes to use them as bait to catch Luke. Leia confesses her love for Han as she froze on carbonite and then handed over to Boba Fett's hunter hunter, who was assigned to take her to the Jabba the Hutt gangster. Lando helps Leia, Chewbacca, and two droids escape. Leia senses that Luke is in trouble, and returns to save her after she is almost killed in a lightsaber duel with Vader.
Rosenberg mencatat:
Yes, it's kind of ridiculous... that [Han] is trying to probe her affectionate affection on Hoth, because Leia is trying to manage the evacuation with only an ion cannon for defense. But Han is not wrong that if Leia does not know that he is a person with need, he will burn... On the one hand, it is a preliminary love confession: Han worried about the hunters who still chase after him... But he will stay and give his love and support to Leia if he can admit that he needs it.
The return of Jedi
In the Return of Jedi (1983), Leia infiltrated Jabba's palace in Tatooine disguised as a Boushh prize hunter, and took Chewbacca prisoner to him as part of a ruse. He freed Han from carbonite, but they were recaptured by Jabba. Leia is now chained to Jabba as her slave, equipped with a metal bikini. After Luke arrives and kills Rance Jabba, Jabba punishes Luke, Han and Chewbacca to feed into Sarlacc. Lando (disguised as a guard) helps them defeat their captors, and Leia catches a moment to strangle Jabba with his chain. Luke and Leia swayed to safety, blowing Jabba's barge behind them. Later, the heroes go to the Moon of Endor forest to prepare for the battle with the Empire. There, Luke reveals to Leia that he is his twin brother and that Vader is their father. Leia joins Han in leading the Rebels in battle with Imperial forces as the Rebel Fleet attacks the second Death Star. Leia is slightly injured, but Rebels, with help from Ewoks, defeat the Imperial forces.
Fisher told Rolling Stone in 1983, "In the Return of Jedi , [Leia] becomes more feminine, more supportive, more intimate, but do not forget that these films are on basically a boy's fantasy, so the other way they make it more female in this case is by removing it from her clothes. "Rosenberg writes about Han and Leia:
And we know the two crazy children were locked for life at the Return of the Jedi when Han had received the General in the Rebellion, keeping it secret from Leia. In New Hope, Leia grumbles about Han's quality as a savior... But when she knows what Han is doing, accepting the rank she once found insulting and the mission she knows to be dangerous, Leia is the first person who volunteer to join his strike team. In Star Wars , that's what looks like love: trust your partner's commitment to cause and respect his strategic and technical assessment.
In the film, Leia says that she has vague memories of her biological mother, whom she describes as "kind but sad". Bouzereau quotes Lucas in 1997:
The part I never really developed was the death of Luke's mother and Leia. I have a backstory for him in the previous draft, but basically did not last. When I get to Jedi , I want one of the kids to have some sort of memory about him because he will be a key figure in the new episode that I wrote. But I'm really debating whether Leia should remember it.
Revenge of the Sith
In the prequel movie Revenge of the Sith (2005), PadmÃÆ' à © Amidala is pregnant with the twin Anakin Skywalker near the end of Clone Wars. After Anakin switched to the dark side of the Force and became Darth Vader, PadmÃÆ'à © gave birth to Luke and Leia in the Mass Police and then died. Leia was adopted by Senator Bail Organa and his wife, Queen Breha of Alderaan.
The film critic Peter Travers of Rolling Stone wrote, "As we watched Anakin almost melt in the lava, just to be united, Frankenstein style, in the lab while the Lucas scene intercuts from Padme gave birth to twins Luke and Leia, the relationship with original feeling finally formed. " The Force Awakens
In March 2013, Fisher insists that he will re-enact his role as Leia in Star Wars: The Force Awakens . Set 30 years after The Return of Jedi , The Force Awakens reintroduces Leia who is "slightly more fighting, slightly more heartbroken". In November 2015, director J.J. Abrams said of Leia, "He's called the General but... there's a moment in the movie where a character kind of slips and calls him 'Princess.'" Commenting on the story he added, "The stakes are pretty high on the story for him, so there's not a lot of nonsense where Leia is worried. "Asked how Leia handled things in the movie, Fisher said," It's not easy... he's alone. Under a lot of pressure, commit at will, but I'd imagine feeling a bit defeated, tired, and annoyed. ". "
In the film, Leia is the leader of the Resistance, a group formed by the New Republic to fight the proxy war with the First Order and seek to find Luke, who disappeared years before. When his troops foil the First Order attack seeking the Resistance of the astromech droid BB-8, Leia meets back with Han, who has helped the rebel boy Stormtrooper Finn and Rey orphan bring the droid so far. Han and Leia have been isolated for years; their marriage falls apart after their son, Ben, falls to the dark side and becomes commander of First Order Kylo Ren. Leia believes Ben can still be brought back to the bright side. The Han volunteers for the mission infiltrated the Starkiller First Order Base to paralyze his defense shield. Facing Ren, Han tries to convince his son to leave First Order, but Ren instead put his father on lightsabernya. Leia senses Han's death through the Force, and then shares moments of sadness with Rey, who considers Han as a mentor. Leia sees Rey, Chewbacca, and R2-D2 as they leave to search for Luke, saying, "May the Force be with you".
Asked why Leia was not proven to be a Jedi at The Force Awakens (because she was in Star Wars extending the working universe), Abrams told IGN, "That's a very good question, the one we talked about quite a bit, even with Carrie [Fisher], why he did not use the force of this Force nature that this character possessed, and one of his answers was that it was just an option he made, that his decision to run the Rebellion, and finally the Resistance this, and considers himself a General, not Jedi, that's just the choice he takes. " He also added, "I want to think that there really is not a lot of clock ticking, and it's never too late... obviously we've seen, and we do again, that he's still a strong Force, and that's something I think is an intrinsic part of his character.
Fisher was nominated for the Saturn 2016 Award for Best Supporting Actress for his portrayal.
The Last Jedi
In December 2015, producer Kathleen Kennedy asserted that Fisher would re-enact Leia's role in the next installment, later known as Star Wars: Episode VIII, but was later named Star Wars: The Last Jedi . Fisher died on December 27, 2016, after a heart attack. It has been confirmed that he has finished filming his role in the film shortly before his death.
In the film, Leia is one of them on the bridge of his battleship, Raddus , who was expelled into space when the ship was attacked by the First Order. Leia uses the Force to pull himself back to the ship. After recovering, he shoots and makes Poe Dameron offended, who has rebelled against his successor, Vice Admiral Holdo. From his silence to Ahch-To, Luke projects himself through Fortress's Struggle for Resistance at Crait and reunited with Leia, apologizing for what happened to Ben. Leia replies that she knows her son is missing, but Lukas assures her that "nothing is really missing". While Luke distracts Kylo and his troops attack the First army, Leia is one of the remaining Resistance forces who escaped from Crait in the Millennium Falcon.
Episode IX
After Fisher's death, Variety reported that he was scheduled to appear in Star Wars: Episode IX and speculated that Lucasfilm needed to find a way to overcome his death and what would become his character. Filming is expected to begin in 2018. Lucasfilm announced in January 2017 that they "do not plan to digitally re-create Carrie Fisher's appearance as Princess or General Leia Organa". In April 2017, the Fisher family gave Disney and Lucasfilm the right to use the latest recording of the final actress at Episode IX . However, Kennedy later said that Fisher would not appear in the film.
Anthology film
Rogue One: Star Wars Story
Leia made a brief appearance in the 2016 movie end of Rogue One, receiving a plan for the Death Star as the beginning of A New Hope's . Since this movie takes place before the original Star Wars trilogy, very young Leia is needed. Star Wars rebels
The teen version of Princess Leia, voiced by Julie Dolan, appears in the 2016 episode of the Star Wars Rebels animated series, set between Revenge of the Sith and A New Hope . In the episode, Leia is sent on a secret mission to help the titular rebels. Executive producer Dave Filoni said of the performance:
We thought we had a chance to show him learning to be a leader, experimenting with a stronger stronger personality that you see in A New Hope . One of the tricky challenges in describing Leia in Rebels is that we must remind the audience that at this point he is part of the Empire. He did not believe in the Empire, but he acted as a part, almost a double agent.
Star Wars: Forces of Destiny
Leia appears in the animated serial Star Wars: Forces of Destiny , voiced by Shelby Young.
Legends works
The original three Star Wars movies have spawned major franchises that include novels, comic books, video games, and animated television series. Leia appears in many of these materials. In Dark Empire II (1994-95), Leia gave birth to a third child by Han, whom she named Anakin. Palpatine was reborn in a lower clonal body and rapidly deteriorated in Empire's End (1995), and attempted to have the body of Anakin's baby.
Cultural impact
Princess Leia has been called an icon of the 1980s, a feminist hero and "exemplary personification of women's empowerment". In 2008, Leia was selected by Empire as the 89th greatest film character of all time, and IGN listed her as the 8th Star Wars hero. The UGO network listed Leia as one of the greatest heroes of all time in 2010.
Characters have been referenced or parodied in some TV shows and movies, and are celebrated in cosplay. Fisher appeared in a Leia metal bikini on the cover of the 1983 Rolling Stone Summer Edition, and Leia's paintings and other characters around Lucas appeared on the cover of the May 25, 1983 edition of > Time announcing < i> Return of Jedi . In 2013, cartoonist Jeffrey Brown published Star Wars bestseller: Vader Little Lady, a comic book featuring Darth Vader and young Leia in a funny father-daughter situation. Princess Leia appeared on US stamps in 2007 and stamped UK 2015.
Leia has also been used in various Star Wars merchandise, including sculptures, action figures and other toys, household goods and clothing, office supplies, food products, and bath foam and shampoo in the form of Leia bottles with his head as a lid. In his one-woman Wishful Drinking show, Fisher calls Princess Leia Pez one of the "horror merchandising" of this series. In a 2011 interview, Fisher said:
I sign my likeness for free. At that time, there was no such thing as a "resemblance"... No merchandise associated with the film. No one knows the extent of the franchise. Not that I do not think I'm funny or anything, but when I look in the mirror, I do not think I'm going to give up anything valuable. Lately I feel like Minnie Mouse - Princess Leia's identity is another eclipse of identity I've ever had.
After the acquisition of LucasFilm in 2012 by Walt Disney Company, the Disney Store stated in May 2014 that the company "has no plans for Leia products". After public criticism, Disney told Time in June 2014 that it would release some Leia products. Funko has since produced several versions of Leia (at least one for every movie) on their POP! a line of 4.5-inch vinyl figures in the Japanese super-deformation style. Hasbro will release Leia's action figure as he appears in the animated series Star Wars Rebels.

Leia's unique hairstyle in 1977 A New Hope has been known as the "donut" or "cinnamon" hairstyle, and is an icon of characters and series. A cover story in February 1978 for the British teen magazine Jackie includes step-by-step instructions on how to mimic Leia's buns hair. In the 1978 short film parody of Hardware Wars, Anne-Droid's daughter had a real cinnamon bun on the side of her head. Miss Piggy from The Muppet Show imitated the hairstyle in the episode of the Star Wars series in February 1980. In the 1987 Brook Brook movie comedy Spaceballs, Princess Vespa (Daphne Zuniga) seems to have a hairstyle, which soon unfolds in reality into a pair of great headphones. In the parody movie Thumb Wars, Leia's role is filled with a character named Princess Bunhead, who has two cinnamon rolls for hair. In 2015, the character of Fisher's daughter Billie Lourd in the horror-comedy series Scream Queens , a rich and dissatisfied female girl known as Chanel No. 1. 3, wearing earplugs in each scene as a tribute to the iconic Leia Fisher. hairstyle. Lourd also has a cameo at The Force Awakens (2015) where he wears a typical Leia hairstyle.
Asked about his inspiration for hairstyle, George Lucas told Time in 2008, "In the 1977 movie, I worked very hard to create something different that was not fashion, so I went with some kind of revolutionary Women's View Southwestern Pancho Villa, which is what it is.. Bread basically comes from Mexico in the 20th century. "However, in 2015 Linda Rodriguez McRobbie of Mental Floss recounts research showing that while the Mexican revolutionary woman on that time did not have such elaborate hairstyles, the young women who married the Hopi, and their "pumpkin flower circle" resemble the shallows. Leia's Hair Bread. McRobbie also attributes Michael Heilemann's theory that Leia's hairstyle may have also been inspired by two earlier characters: Queen Fria in 1939 Flash Gordon's "Ice Mongo" comic strip, and the wife of Barnes Wallis scientist Molly (played by Ursula Jeans) in the 1955 battle film The Dam Busters. Lucas is influenced by the Flash Gordon series, and the Battle of Yavin in Star Wars is a tribute to the second bombing sequence from behind on The Dam Busters. Comparisons have also been made for the 4th century BC Iberian Lady of Elche sculpture, as well as the 1920s "earphone" hairstyle.
Feminist Analysis
Leia has been the subject of feminist analysis. Mark Edlitz wrote for The Huffington Post in 2010 that "Leia is an exemplary personification of women's empowerment." David Bushman, television curator at Paley Center for Media, said in 2012, "From a male perspective... Princess Leia is a highly credited character for her time - imperfect, but of course challenging, firm and strong." Alyssa Rosenberg of The Washington Post wrote in 2015, "Leia was not only the first great hero of science fiction and fantasy to capture my imagination. He was one of the first characters I encountered whose powers came from political beliefs and sharpness. "In his 2007 article" Feminism and Strengths: Empowerment and Disappointment in the Far-Far, Galaxy ", Diana Dominguez calls Leia a welcome change from previous depictions of women in movies and TV. He writes:
Here there is a woman who can play like and with boys, but who does not have to be one of the boys and who can, if and when she wants, show she likes boys, a woman who outspoken, not shy, and, most importantly, not punished for that. She is not a flirty sex pot, throwing her hair around with teasing to distract enemies... She does not play the role of "Maternal Nurse", though she shows caring and affection, or "innocent sweet girl" who stands passively while men do all the work, but step aside to let them do what they do when it's wise to do it... Leia is a hero without losing her gender status; he does not have to play a cute and helpless kitten or become un-sex and intercourse to get what he wants. He can be strong, presumptuous, outspoken, bossy, and judesy, and still respected and seen as a woman.
Rosenberg writes that, although Luke was at first innocent and innocent in search of adventure and Han was a separate opportunist for the money, both were "influenced by Leia's passion [and] taking their place as full participants in the Rebellion." He noted, "Everyone finally comes to Leia's view of the world." Leia herself, specifically dedicated to her political movement against the Empire, "found a partner in Han, acknowledged that personal happiness can help her maintain her commitment to build a better galactic order". Rosenberg cites "Leia's willingness to see the best in her, and Han's desire to live up to her belief in her" as the basis for their relationship, also shows her efforts to make her realize that she has needs like everyone else and must admit that she needs them.
In the 2012 essay "Lightsabers, Political Arenas, and Marriages", Ray Merlock and Kathy Merlock Jackson refer to Leia as the successor to previous science fiction heroes, Wilma Deering of Buck Rogers and Dale Arden of Flash Gordon , and the embodiment of "a new stage in the ongoing presentation of fairy tales in danger". Writing that "after Leia, princesses are no longer passive and saved only with kisses," they recorded the reflection of characters in the next Disney Princess animated film and on female soldiers like Ellen Ripley from the Alien franchise and Xena from the TV series adventure Xena: Warrior Princess . AO Scott of The New York Times described Leia as "a forerunner of Hermione Granger and Katniss Everdeen and countless endless Disney princesses." She also foretold the recent feminist movement, which is somewhat late in Star Wars itself.
Fisher himself describes Leia as a "great" feminist icon, dismissing the assumption that the character was once a "girl in distress". Fisher said of Leia, "He rules them, I do not know what your idea is about trouble, but that's not it! And I'm not a baby walking through a galaxy with my boobs bouncing, so I'm not" Not threatening to women ", adding" I likes Princess Leia. I love how he is full of spirit. I love how he killed Jabba the Hutt ".
Bikini metal
Leia's slave when he was captured by Jabba the Hutt at the beginning of Jedi's return - made of brass and dubbed Leia's "Metal Bikini" or "Gold Bikini" - soon made the character (and Fisher) "sex symbol of generation" which is celebrated with pin-up posters, and then merchandising and cosplay. The clothing has earned the following cult itself.
Rosenberg noted that "the costume has become a cultural icon in a way that escapes the context of the scene in which Leia wears it and the things she does after she is forced into clothing." Philip Chien from the WIRED website wrote in 2006, "There is no doubt that the sight of Carrie Fisher in a gold sci-fi swimsuit is burned into the sweaty subconscious mind of a generation of puberty fanboys in the spring 1983. "Acknowledging the opinion of some that the iconography of" Slave Leia "tarnished the character's position as a" feminist hero ", Rosenberg argues:
Leia may be captivated in these scenes, but she is not really a suitable fantasy. Instead, he waited his time for the moment when he could take the anger action, carrying out a carefully crafted plan to save his lover. And when that moment comes, the bikini does not reproach Leia passively. He gets up, and uses a chain that ties him to strangle a creature that tries to take its power by turning it into a sex object.
Science fiction filmmaker Letia Clouston concurred, saying "Sci-fi has a long history of strong female characters.Yes Princess Leia wears a golden bikini, but she's also the one who killed Jabba If you take into account movies and TV shows like Terminator , Aliens , Battlestar Galactica , and even video games like Metroid , you can see sci-fi has consistently promoted women's strength more than any other genre.
