Plot

Peter and Joe target Quagmire for Halloween jokes this year. This includes bombarding Quagmire with eggs, Joe dressing up as a girl and sleeping with him, and infecting him with an unknown disease brought by mosquitoes from Senegal (but only after incorporating any known disease in needles and stabbing him, including hepatitis and meningitis). Coming home, Peter praised Quagmire for good sports and both decided to go for a drink. Deciding to approach Joe, they convince him to let them follow him in a police car. Agree to do it only if they stay in his car, Peter and Quagmire soon become a nuisance. Finally, they drove to the old airfield where they found Mitsubishi Zero, which was a Japanese fighter used during World War II. Quagmire flew two into the sky and pretended to have a Japanese heritage and a drive to perform kamikaze he finally took them on a high speed dive into the sea near Port Quahog, stopping just a few inches from a collision stating that it was retaliation for making him have sex with Joe.

Meanwhile, Stewie finds a trick-or-treater (initially thinking they are real monsters and shooting them with M16), and immediately wants to participate in the activity. Deciding to dress like a duck baby, he was later harassed by a group of three older boys who stole his candy. Looking for Brian, Stewie blames him for causing him to lose candy and convinces him to steal back candy from a bully. Approaching the bullies to get the candy back, Brian immediately painted pink. To take his revenge, Stewie half jokingly advises Brian that they kill the bullies, though they both agree that they can not really do that. When his plans to threaten them with a failed bazooka (and eventually kill Godzilla monsters instead), Stewie goes to "Plan B" and starts crying for his mother. Lois then confronts her leader with Justin's mother and becomes her bully, demands Stewie's candy back, asks for Justin's candy, and $ 40. But since she has no money, Lois takes the welcome mat and says she'll come back tomorrow for $ 80.

That same night, Meg decides to do a trick-or-treat with her friends and attend a party held at Connie D'Amico's house. Glad no one can see through his slutty cat costume (even his father, Peter, who says "Ugly whore!" To him and his friends), Meg finally wins the bottle, and (unfamiliarly) starts making out with her brother Chris who is wearing Optimus Prime costume while in the dark closet. When Connie opens the closet after they wear it for too long, her siblings are in their panties, and instantly horrified to see the revelation.

During the credits, Stewie and Brian recall the night while sorting out their candy just as Meg and Chris came home. Meg and Chris both clarify the situation by convincing each other that they managed to connect with a hot date. Meg states that her date might even call back, but Chris immediately says that she might be disappointed, even though she's most likely just playing together.

Cultural reference

Chris dressed up as Bill Cosby for Halloween, but Lois insisted that she change her costume because she was wearing a black mask. She reluctantly changed the Halloween costume and dressed up like Optimus Prime. When Quagmire spoke of him being half-Japanese, Peter confused "kamikaze" with "Karma Chameleon", the 1983 Culture Club song. The Pink Panther made another appearance on the show, when he asked Brian if it was his first day of pink. Brian says "yes", the Pink Panther replied "Welcome to hell." When Joe, Peter, and Quagmire flew with the Japanese version of Zero, the Asian version of the theme from Top Gun was played.

Reception

"Halloween on Spooner Street" was aired on November 7, 2010, as part of the night of animated television on Fox, and preceded by The Simpsons , and Family Guy creator and executive producer Seth MacFarlane spin-off, The Cleveland Show , and was followed by the episode American Dad! . This is watched by 7.97 million viewers, according to Nielsen ratings, despite being screened simultaneously with Desperate Housewives at ABC, The Amazing Race at CBS and Sunday Night Football on NBC. This episode also ranked 3.8 in 18-49 demographics, beating The Simpsons , American Dad! and The Cleveland Show in addition to significantly defeating American Dad! and The Cleveland Show in total views. Episode ratings increased significantly from previous episodes.

Television critics have mixed reactions to "Halloween", calling Brian/Stewie's story "good," but saying it's "dragged by everything around it." In a simultaneous review of the episode of The Simpsons and The Cleveland Show preceding the show, and American Dad's broadcast! following it, AV Club ' Todd VanDerWerff wrote this episode, "I really enjoy almost everything on A-story, which involves Brian taking tricks or treating Stewie." VanDerWeff went on to express his dislike about the jokes involving Peter, Joe and Quagmire, as well as the last scene involving Meg and Chris, commenting, "I think this show makes viewers queasy with this funny, but at this point, so little about it is unexpected or surprising that it will have the ability to produce even terrifying laughter. "He finally gave the episode a C rating, the second best rating of the night, beating the Cleveland Show episode." This is the Great Pancake episode, Cleveland Brown " and The Simpsons "Treehouse of Horror XXI". In a slightly more positive review of the episode, Jason Hughes of TV Squad praised the portrayal of Halloween episodes, including comments on Meg's "slutty costume". Hughes continues to comment on jokes by Peter and Joe in Quagmire, writing, "The story is not that great, but the rewards of an unnamed virus that ruin Quagmire and his fake kikaikaze make it finally worth investing time."

This episode is among four other episodes filed by the Family Guy production team for consideration of Emmy Award nominations, at the Primetime Emmy Award for the Extraordinary Comedy Series. "Halloween on Spooner Street" submitted, along with "And I'm Joyce Kinney", "The Road to the North Pole", "New Kidney in Town" and "Place of Commerce". The series was successfully nominated in 2009, but failed to win the award. Mark Hentemann, executive producer and showrunner Family Guy said about the nomination process, "We had an internal discussion in the author's room, and it looks like we're much more like other primetime comedies than we are the children's show in animation. We assumed we would not get anything, so this was a big surprise when we got the nomination. "

During the April 1, 2011 broadcast of a Major League Baseball match between New York Mets and the Florida Marlins on cable network Mets' SportsNet New York, an audio clip of the episode (where Stewie complained about the frustration of being a Mets fan by giving up on the team after they handed the Opening home run Day) is played. A SNY spokeswoman said, "It was a very bad decision from an employee and this problem is being handled internally."
