History

The creation of the airline was announced on July 1, 2011, when Flybe and Finnair revealed plans to jointly purchase Finncomm Airlines (FCA) and change the image of Flybe Nordic airlines, with Flybe and Finnair each holding shares in the new airline. Under the terms of the agreement, the purchase price of Finncomm is EUR25 million, where Flybe will pay EUR12 million and Finnair EUR13 million. Flybe owns a majority stake in Flybe Nordic, holds a 60% stake in the airline, with Finnair holding the remaining 40%; Flybe has three seats on the airline's board of directors with Finnair having two others. Flybe plans to invest a total of EUR23.6 million into the new airline, including fees such as loan payments in addition to FCA purchase prices.

At the time of Flybe Nordic's announcement, Flybe plans to start operating the new airline on August 1, 2011, under the name of the deleted FCA, although the start date is then pushed back to 30 October. The new route network is also planned to be announced in mid-August.

In November 2014, Flybe announced that it would sell its 60% stake in the airline for EUR1 in an attempt to reduce group costs. In February 2015, the Finnish Competition and Consumer Authority approved the sale of its shares (60%) to StaffPoint Holding and G.W. Sohlberg. Flybe sold its share to Finnair as a temporary solution in March 2015. The airline has operated under the flight code of Finnair since May 1, 2015. In May 2015, Flybe Nordic was renamed Nordic Regional Airlines.
