The drinking age legal is the age at which a person can consume alcohol legally. This law covers a range of issues and behaviors, which discuss when and where alcohol can be consumed. Minimum age alcohols can be consumed legally differently from the age when it can be purchased in some countries. These laws vary between different countries and many laws have exceptions or special circumstances. Most laws only apply to drinking alcohol in public places, with mostly unregulated home alcohol consumption (the exception being the UK, which has a legal minimum age of five for supervised consumption in private places). The most common minimum age for buying alcohol in Africa is 18. Although it varies from the lowest age limit in Ethiopia which is only 15 years old, Zimbabwe with a minimum purchase life of 16 years, Gambia with 17 years age limit and Uganda where the minimum legal purchase age is 18 years but children aged 16 or 17 can eat a beer, wine or vinegar with food in the restaurant. Cameroon and Egypt are the only countries in Africa with a minimum purchase life of 21 years. But Algeria, Angola (except Luando Province), Central African Republic, Comoros, Equatorial Guinea, Gabon, Guinea-Bissau, Morocco, Togo, Tunisia and Western Sahara have no laws on books that limit the sale of alcohol to minors. In Libya, Somalia and Sudan, the sale, production, and consumption of alcohol is strictly prohibited.

Minimum age to buy and consume varies, but the most common age is 18 years. But in North America the age limit varies between 18 and 21 years. Across the United States, the minimum legal age to purchase alcoholic beverages from stores, supermarkets, liquor stores, bars, clubs or other licensed places is 21 years. In Canada every province can decide which minimum age limit should be set to buy or consume alcohol. Most provinces have a minimum age of 19 years, while Alberta, Manitoba and Quebec set a minimum age of 18 years. In South America all countries have set a minimum purchase age of 18 years, except for Guyana where children aged 16 or 17 can consume a glass of beer, wine or juice at a restaurant provided they buy food, and Paraguay is the only country with a purchase minimum law and drinking age of 20 years.
