Ikhtisar
Hi Hi Puffy AmiYumi follows the adventures of two pop and best friends: Yumi Yoshimura (Gray DeLisle), a cynical punk rocker, sarcastic, gruff, and tough; and Ami Onuki (Janice Kawaye), a vibrant, optimistic, and funny student. Both are based on the original Japanese pop duo Puffy AmiYumi, but with different looks and personalities. They travel around the world with their tailored tour buses, along with their well-meaning but greedy manager, Kaz Harada (Keone Young). From rockin 'out in concert to hanging out in their hometown in Tokyo, the duo brought the world by storm with their musical talents, trend setting style, and humor, dishing out lessons in J-pop justice and building a "cool" international language along the way.
The secondary characters include: Jang-Keng (Gray DeLisle) and Tekirai (Janice Kawaye), a pet pet duo who enjoys torturing Kaz; Harmony (Sandy Fox), a six-year-old girl who proclaimed himself as "Number One Fan" of Puffy AmiYumi and (later) Kaz and constantly stalking them; Eldwin Blair (Nathan Carlson), an evil land developer who tries to destroy loved ones for his own selfish needs; King Chad (Katie Leigh), a selfish "brat boy" who is the master of the Stu-Pi-Doh card game! (a parody of Yu-Gi-Oh! >); The evil Talent Sucker (Nathan Carlson; Corey Burton), a vampire rock trio from Transylvania; and Atchan (Rob Paulsen), caricatures Vo Atsushi (lead singer of pop band New Rote'ka) who talks to third people and considers him a super hero.
The AmiYumi Puffy Trip that animates around the world on their tour buses. Though the size is the same as regular buses outside, it seems to have enough internal space to accommodate girls' rooms (including full-sized beds), Kaz rooms, their equipment, television and computers, among other things. In the episode "Domo", Kaz refers to the upstairs area. It also seems capable of running on autopilot, as Kaz, Ami, and Yumi sometimes sit in the back cabin of the bus while traveling. Sometimes, the back door has been opened to receive packets sent by a boy on a scooter.
During the first season, the show includes live action clips from real Ami and Yumi makes childish comments (in English and Japanese without subtitles) at the beginning and end of each episode. They only do short clips at the beginning of the show during the second and third seasons. Beginning with the second season, the duo was sometimes shown holding a title card introducing the cartoon segment. At the end of the episode "Sitcomi Yumi", Ami and Yumi watch television and see the Kaz animation with the original Ami and Yumi. All live-action clips are produced by Freegate, Ltd.
The original PUFFY plays cartoon theme songs (which are also in Japanese, German, Spanish, and Portuguese in their respective areas), and many episodes feature one or more duo songs playing in the background, along with music by their Puerto Rican muse Andy Sturmer.
Although the characters speak English, the script interprets their regional languages ââin Japanese, especially when characters react to events they find surprising. Calling "Tasukete!" instead of "Help!" usually used.

According to the Register, the target audience of this event is boys and girls aged 6 to 11 years. However, he also has adolescent and adult fans from Ami Onuki and Yumi Yoshimura who formed the Japanese pop duo Puffy AmiYumi. The list, fans of the band, wants to spread his fame to other parts of the world and thus create cartoons.
The series features an animated adventure of this duo, which has been very popular in Japan since debuting in 1996. The group now has its own US albums, including a 2004 album companion for the program, and is well known to Cartoon Network's audience in US to show themes to the animated series Teen Titans . During the series production, DeLisle learned some Japanese from Kawaye and Young, both of whom spoke fluently.
Cartoons were the only ones that were fully manufactured in the United States (thus making their character choices quite ironic), with characters designed by renowned Canadian artist Lynne Naylor who earned the nominated performances for the coveted Annie Award. It uses a combination of Macromedia Flash and traditional cel animation. Each program lasts 30 minutes (with ads) and features three seven-minute segments borrowing inspiration from Japanese animations (such as Pokémon, animated series Sunbow Productions based on Hasbro properties, and ThunderCats ).
Sam Register originally pitched the idea of ââPuffy AmiYumi having their own television series on Cartoon Network, and after that, Renegade Animation's studio developed a brief test on April 22, 2003 in hopes of shaking channels to broadcast their production show. Renegade Animation initially, at first, created another Cartoon Network pilot before Hi Hi Puffy AmiYumi ; two of which feature Captain Sturdy ; one in 2001, entitled "Back in Action", and the other in 2003, entitled "The Originals", but they were eventually rejected, and Renegade Animation then started working on Hi Hi Puffy AmiYumi beginning with the pilot on April 22, 2003. The pilot was not broadcast, but was initially successful, and received a green light from Cartoon Network. Finally, it is featured in a non-full version as a preview on the Cartoon Network DVD and VHS tapes.
The series was officially announced in front of Cartoon Network on February 26, 2004. Originally planned to premiere in December 2004, but was then pushed forward until November 19th.
Cancellation
On October 2, 2006, the show crew announced on their blog (puffycrew.blogspot.com) that Cartoon Network had canceled Hi Hi Puffy AmiYumi .
